Thanks Bullitt,
I'll be out of town this weekend so I might be doing it the following weekend. Give me a call and let me know what you find out about rebuilding the rear end.
Thanks,
Russ
Stingray6974,
I sent you an email! I'd like to take you up on your offer in the next couple of weeks. Please e-mail me your phone number at russellfulks@hotmail.com and I'll give you a call to talk particulars.
Thanks,
Russ
Corvettes of Houston quoted me $375 to do a "reseal" if I brought the diff to their shop. I don't know what a "reseal" entails so I'm assuming it's a standard rebuild. Sounds like it might be cheaper for me to ship it out. I've got one other local diff. rebuilder that I'm waiting to hear...
Yup Chris,
As usual, you were right. I couldn't believe my eyes when I looked uner the car.
I don't want to spend a fortune as I'm planning on selling it in a couple of months. Im only in for about 11.5-12 so I don't want to drop 2K on a suspension package. If the spring needs...
Everybody,
I was going to take my car to have the yokes looked at, but upon my own visual inspection I can see that the passenger side is a good 1/2" closer to the diff than the drivers side. No need to have a pro tell me, I know I need to replace the passenger side yoke. So, since I'll have...
Alright guys and gals,
I am going to have my side yokes and overall suspension looked at on Monday. How will the shop diagnose a bad side yoke? I'd hate to take it in and end up having to pay them to tear down the diff just to tell me that the yoke is bad, when I can do that with Bullits help...
I've heard of guys adding an amp behind the passenger dash pad. Just fab a bracket and mount the amp to it. Looks clean because it's hidden. Also, if you're building a low profile box for the back, you could always mount the amp inside the box.
I haven't found a good place for my amp since...
True, true. I think our cars really do have feelings. Because If you pull an assembly of parts off of the car and replace some, but not all of the parts, the ones that weren't replaced break! It's like the car is saying, "If you don't love me enough to fix all of me than I'm not going to love...
Why not get the Z06 and make it a convertible. Seems like vette magazine had an article where someone was making custom verts out of Z06's. That would be so sweet! Although I do think that if you want the power and handling of a Z06 with the look of a vert, you might just want to buy the vert...
You can pick up the trailing arm with bearings for $219 a piece from zip. I don't see a core charge listed anywhere. Unless I'm missing something, you could just throw on your rotors and transfer the hardware and your good to go. Maybe I'm wrong but $2100 seems like a lot of cash that you...
Wow! :j
I might just have to take a vacation in your area so I can see the 69! Those wheels are going to look incredible on the beast.
Lookin' great.
Russ
I think it's up to you. Do you really need to drill the rotors? I don't know what you have planned so you may need to. Installing the MC and calipers can be done in about 6 hours at home in the garage. Parking brake is not fun but can also be done. The only thing that would be a real pain...
DanC,
Remove your speedometer cable housing (the part that goes into the transmission) and count the teeth on the plastic gear that is attached to the speedo cable. That gear is the driven gear. As a general rule, every tooth you add, drops the speed by 5 mph. So if you're actually 30 mph...
Bullitt,
Sorry I missed your call last night, I was zainoing (is that a word?) my expedition in the garage. Didn't even hear the phone ring. The bump stop would reduce the total travel of the trailing arm, thus reducing the travel of the U-bolt threads towards the diff. I did order the bump...
I have checked the pulleys and they are indeed round. And I do have the short type of compressor. I'll make sure they test the compressor and if it's okay I guess I'll just have to try a new set of belts. If that doesn't work, then a march compressor bracket. If that doesn't work, dual spal...
Chris,
Just to clear it up, they only scrape on hard left turns. Also, the bump stop on the passenger side is missing. I don't know if it is possible for the bolts to scrape on full travel in stock configuration without the bump stop.
So, I'll have it looked at hopefully this weekend and...
When I bought the car I had a "certified" mechanic check everything out. He basically said that the car might need new shocks and pointed out the obvious aftermarket stuff. He actually said that the underbody was in pretty good shape. The previous owner said that he put new shocks on the car...
Chris,
$600 is only the labor cost for pulling and installing the new side yoke. It does not include the cost of the side yoke. Would I have to replace both yokes or just the bad one?
Bullitt,
I think I'm going to take it somewhere to have the side yoke looked at. Nothing against you...
Chris,
Corvettes of Houston here said it would be about $600 in labor, about 8hrs to replace the side yoke. :(
I didn't realize this would be such an expensive repair. Does that price sound about right? I don't know if I can do something like this myself. The biggest job I've done is...
