Thanks guys, I will look at it again and use the tips you suggest. Although I can not see the top cushion the bottom large one seems to be in fair shape -- not bad for originals. As I mentioned before I am going to return the poly kit ( to Echlers ) and put in original rubber. Echlers said they...
JohnZ, Wayne C, When I first attempted to remove the cushions ( 65 ) and bolt, washers and nut ( 64 ) I had the vehicle on jack stands with both wheels off the ground. I then removed the nut from the vertical bolt that holds the cushions together. At this point I did not have a block of wood...
JohnZ, I read the CSM and I am still a little lost as to where to place the 1/2" piece of wood or steel. Doesn't the nose of the carrier attach to rear cross member -- it doesn't seem to be near the floor pan. Have you done this procedure and did you drill 3/4" holes in your floor wells to get...
JohnZ, I too have finally come to that conclusion. No need to spend the extra dollars when the regular name brand Dino oils work just as well. thanks, Steve
I have been a user of Mobil 1 ( both engine oil & gear lube ) for many years, both in my truck and in the vette. Over the years I felt that paying more than double the normal price of Dino oil was worth it - just for the technology invested by Mobil and maybe because they knew more than me...
JohnZ, Correct me if I am wrong but I believe for 62 the manual trans were Borg Warner --- T10. The Muncie -- M 20,21,22 started later on, 64,65 not sure. I believe the trans number Dave mentioned ,3885010, is a Muncie Number. Therefore, wrong trans for a 62 matching #'s vehicle. Steve
JohnZ, Thanks for the heads up. Me thinks I will return the poly kit and go with the original. I thought poly would be better but did not consider size problems. I guess size does matter. Thanks again. Steve
Any suggestions/tips on changing the differential to frame cushion on a 66? I noticed that the rubber cushion on my is a little deformed and probably should be changed. So I purchased a poly kit from Echlers. The kit included the two cushions, bolt, washers, sleeve and a nut. On the original...
IH2Lose, Yep, The entire engine is original ( heads, crank, manifolds cam etc. ) Good point to mention to other members who plan to rebuild. When I brought the engine into the shop I made them aware of all the casting dates, part numbers, engine vin on block pad, all identifing marks/numbers...
Straydog, Nice wheels -- love those 66 427's . 13.3 in the 1/4 mile with 3:08 gears is pretty good. How do you like the MSD ignition? What kind of spark plug wires and spark plugs are you using? What did you have done on the rebuild? Mine is a driver, but only when the weather is clear -- no...
Thanks Guys, It is a pleasure being here. Going through the numerous threads I found myself runnig out to the garage every so often checking on certiain items, parts or numbers. That one tip on collapsing the front spring would have come in real handy 10 months ago when I replaced the lower A...
I was lucky also, my bolts came out relatively easy with lots of Nuts Off/ Liquid Wrench but you have to let them soak for awhile and apply the Nuts Off frequently. More that likely the bolts are frozen inside the bushing. Let them soak. If your arm is hanging free ( Half shaft off, sway off etc...
I came upon this forum about a month ago and I am still in the process of reading ALL the past threads. I am so amazed with the knowledge, experience , know how and comaraderie that I have to read every one. Just wish I had came across this forum sooner...
