    Oil Leak

Sounds like you need to get it hauled (on a flatbed) to an appropriate repair facility pronto. I would not drive it in that condition.

    A C5 Merry Christmas

Remo- I think some "dry out" funding would be more appropriate. Only five more months until spring! :chuckle Jim

Driving That C5 In The Snow?

I think that you are mostly correct here; the tires are the biggest problem. However, the width of the tires, the relatively light weight of the Corvette, and the large amount of torque all work against you.

    Stock Z06 Low 11's

My stock Z06 has a bout 150-200 passes at the local strip. It is at 2600 ft, but the density altitude is usually more like 6000 ft. I have run in the 12.4's at about 113mph three times, but that is it. I run BFG drag radials and a Vararam. I could see high 11's, maybe. Is a gearing change...

Dec. 2008: It's time for Americans to take their blinders off

Well said, Rob. The fact that Detroit builds what sells is central here. They built all those trucks and SUV's that are closer to locomotives than they are to cars because that is what people wanted to buy! The consumers chose that. I certainly support capitalism and the free enterprise...

oil change = low oil warning

The crankcase holds 6.5 quarts, doesn't it? I would suggest that you be certain that your crankcase is filled correctly before you stress any further. You could be down most of a quart and the warning light could be correct. If that doesn't fix it, then at least you have eliminated the simple...

10 Cars That Damaged GM's Reputation

I owned one of those Vegas. I bought it with about 10,000 miles on the clock and it already had a new engine. After a few years, it had a top-end overhaul done, largely from heat related damage. I drove it to the junkyard at about 75,000 miles when it was clear that it would need a new...

Driving That C5 In The Snow?

That is enough to scare the @#$%^&* out of me. I have driven mine in the snow (to get home from work) a few times, and it is a terrible car to drive in the snow.

    Stingray

My bad! I knew that. It is what I get for posting before my morning coffee.

    Stingray

The midyear Corvettes (63-68) all had "Sting Ray" badges as well, didn't they?

    Show? Go? Both? or No?

Wheelspin is slow. The trap speed tells me that you have good horsepower. But highway tire may be your limiting factor. Drag radial would be worth at least 0.3 - 0.4 seconds.

    Show? Go? Both? or No?

Thar is about what I would have guessed. My C5 Z06 has run 12.42 at 113.XX with drag radials and a density altitude of about 6000 ft. You would likely run about the same with stickier tires. Nice runs! :m

    Z06 Deal or No Deal

Buy it. Now. Don't wait. The future is uncertain, but you do have today. Spend it driving your new Z06. :thumb

    Z06 Deal or No Deal

I don't know enough to have any real opinion. But if I was in a different position, I would buy that 'Vette!

    Spare Tire

Most of that is true, but not all of it. That is not how my oil monitor is reset, for example. And the e-brake DRL trick does not work on my car. Also, it is not advisable to rotate the side mirrors unnecessarily. They are prone to breakage. There are multiple threads concerning this issue...

    Spare Tire

There is no factory spare or jack in any C5 or C6 Corvette. Except for the Z06, all C5's came from the factory with "run flat" tires and a tire pressure monitoring system. The Z06 came with standard (not run flat) tires, and some tire goo and an air pump provided by the factory. Some people...
