Help! Power steering conversion - power steering pump

Tom - quick update: you are THE MAN!!! I replaced the motor mounts and now have the clearance for the power steering pump. In addition, the driver side mount was cracked so I got a twofer on that fix! I ordered the mounts for zip corvettes and got the "correct" ones. It seems much flimsier...

    Help! Engine mount frame bolt

Ok, I researched a bit more and found the motor mount bolts should be torqued to 30 and the through bolt to about 35. Good to go!

    Help! Engine mount frame bolt

Hi folks - changing out my motor mounts. The new mounts are not as wide as the ones I removed. Does anyone have the bolt size for the motor mount to frame bolt? First time I've done these and I've already got the driver side out and the new one in. However, I need to get the proper bolt as...

Help! Power steering conversion - power steering pump

Thanks Tom - will take your advice and re-check motor mounts. It's darn close and just barely rubs. You are right also that my search for a smaller pulley has been in vain thus far. I did find one 4.6 inch diameter but that is way to small. There was another thread in my searches that...

Help! Power steering conversion - power steering pump

Attached is a picture. There is no clearance to adjust or put on a power steering belt. I'm thinking a smaller pully but that would change the speed at which the pump spins. I think I need about 1/2 inch would do it. Thoughts?

Help! Power steering conversion - power steering pump

Hi folks - not sure if anyone here has done a power steering conversion with a kit....but I did buy a kit and low and behold the power steering pump doesn't clear the frame with the pulley on. The pulley hits the frame and I can't possibly line up the bolts. This isn't an original engine - it...

    Ball joint dust boot covers

Thanks John - the ball joints (upper and lower) are marked as correct parts. I was able to do it with a little wd40 and prying it down slowly. Now that its off, I see its just "pressed" on. I reinstalled the boot with a large socket. I will still call them but I have gotten it back...

    Ball joint dust boot covers

Hello - I am in the process of rebuilding the front end on my '65. I bought a nice kit from zip. However, the ball joints in the upper arms already have to boot covers installed. The boot cover does not fit thought the arm and therefore has to be removed and re-installed once in place...

    Control arms

No, not even installed. The shaft slips into the pressed bushings- it doesn't move like the others. Ended up Calling ecklers and they are swapping it out. However, now I've lost the weekend and holiday week next week to get it back together. frustrated.... i did thread a bolt into the and...

    Control arms

Hello - ordered a new set of upper control arms. On one arm I cannot turn the shaft by hand -I can move it if I put a screw driver in the mounting holes but its tough. The other moves freely - I'm guessing its not straight, which is why I'm replacing them to begin with. Should it move freely...

Power steering install - interesting find

Thanks! I'll have them out this weekend and will check the codes. Not a big deal but surprised they could last that long!

Power steering install - interesting find

So, I decided to put power steering in my 65. Bought the conversion kit and once you get it apart, you decide to redo everything in the front since you have it apart! :) Little project becomes a bigger project. Anyway, the ball joints are riveted! So, could these really be the original...

My First Car is a C3

Is the engine sound? I bought an '80 around 7 years ago, and started with the engine, then worked my way out. One thing to check -the cam....take off the valve cover and let the engine idle. If a cam lobe is shot you won't see the lifter move. That was my experience - didn't need a tune up...

    What's it worth?

Congrats Get ready for a lot of looks and waves. I was (and still am) amazed at the interest the car draws... Some days you feel like a celebrity. I don't have powersteering or powerbrakes either. I don't really miss power brakes, but once in a while I consider putting in power steering...

Spits through carb on real hard acceleration

I had that problem once (backfiring through carb). It was a worn cam lobe. It was really apparent when I took off the valve covers while the engine was running and there was no movement.

    Help! Will Start, Won't Run...

As GerryLP indicated, sometime its the simple things. Have you looked at your spark plugs and/or replaced them?

    Timing - 40 degrees

Yeah, I had located TDC to make sure that wasn't why it was off. I used a TDC tool screwed into #1 and the timing mark was dead on zero. It is vacuum advance (timed with the vacuum cable plugged). I just lost all credibility :) it is BTDC. I read the A on the timing mark as After - now I...

    Timing - 40 degrees

Update: I set it to TDC on the compression stroke and pulled the dist cap. It looked like it was on #8 but then turned the dist to retard it (What I'll call the "normal" position) and it was on #1. There was discussion on Before or After. To clarify its 40 degrees Before (Edited: I had typed...
