You might want to try a fuel pressure check. You should be getting 13 psi (9-13 psi). I had exactly the same symptoms on my '84 and the problem was the hose connecting the pump to the fuel line had a hole in it. As for the IAC noise, I think they will continue to cycle in and out if the key...
At first I thought my pan was leaking, but found out it was the manual selector shaft seal. I recommend buying one from the dealer as the one from AutoZone didn't fit right and I had to do it over again.:)
When my pump was bad the only other symptom I had was surging engine at idle. There were no drivability problems. The fuel pressure was low causing poor atomization from the injectors. This in turn causes poor combustion. The computer senses an idle drop and adds more fuel. Thus poor...
I have an '84 and that was the first symptom I had that my fuel pump was getting weak. After installing the new pump, my MPG is around 20. Up from 13. Check fuel pressure at idle and at WOT, it should be between 9 to 13 psi. Hope this helps.
My horn did the same thing and I found that the small spring under the button contact was broken. This contact should be touching the ring from underneath. It sounds funny but I replaced the broken spring with a cut down spring out of a cheap bic pen. The pen was in the console when I bought...
Well the bolt is out. I tried an EZ-out but it was too tight and was afraid of breaking the EZ-out. If you've ever done this you know real sorrow.;) I had to drill the old bolt out and clean the threads with a tap. I work in die cast machine repair so I do this kind of repair quite often...
Thanks everyone for the advice and suggestions. I have to work a double shift today, so I will work on the car tomorrow. I will let you know how it comes out.
From now on I'll remember Big bolt=Big torque, Small bolt=small torque.:)

I just found out the hard way. My Helm manual for '84 states the bolt torque for the rocker covers is 50 ft lbs. The real torque is 50 in lbs. I broke a bolt before I started to question the manual. Now I'm in for a bigger job.
Lesson learned!
