Help! 1986 Heater core replacement, now car won't start

Hello Vettesters, it's been a LONG time since I posted here! I've replaced the heater core in my 86. 3rd once since I bought the car in 1992, so I know the procedure. After replacing the core, and before buttoning up the dash, I went to start the car and run it to make sure nothing was...

Car wont turn over after Clutch Master Cylinder replaced

Well, this was interesting. I narrowed it down to the clutch safety switch. I removed it, tested it, and it worked fine. Put it back in (no easy feat), and the arm of it wouldn't move far enough to close the switch. The only "adjustment" that there is on it is to bend the wire that connects...

Car wont turn over after Clutch Master Cylinder replaced

Thank you for a detailed explanation. I'll run this down and give my result.

    87 C4 Vette - Improper Fuel Reading

Here's how I would start since it's an easy check, and that is to pull the fuel pump and sender out of the tank (it's all one unit). Open the fuel door, take the cap off, take the rubber gasket/cover off, and remove the 6 or 8 bolts and pull out the assembly. The way the fuel level works is...

    Help! Overheated

If the car is operating at 200F, it doesn't really matter if you have a 160 or 180 thermostat, both will be open anyway. It'll just take a little longer getting from 160 to 180 if you have the 160 in it. That said, if you live in a cold climate, I think 160 is too cold, as you might not get...

Car wont turn over after Clutch Master Cylinder replaced

1986 Vette, been running fine, but I noticed that the clutch was squishy and discovered the clutch master cylinder was leaking, so I bought a new one. I've had this car since '92 and have replaced this part twice before, it's no biggie. Unhooked the neg battery terminal, remove the clutch...

    Cleaning out Master Cylinder reservoir

You'll be fine. The only way air would get in is if you pressed the brake pedal when the reservoir was down and then you'd suck the air in.

    TPS and IAC setting problem

Something is wrong if the holes allow for "very little movement". I don't have one in front of me, but the slots that the bolts ride through are about 1/4" long each in the TPS.

Help! Over Drive in 4+3 Transmission

Absolutely. Not enough pressure to push one or more of the valves in the valve body.

    TPS and IAC setting problem

Doesn't make any sense. Are you sure the little arm on the TPS is making contact with the correct point on the throttle body? All you're doing when you crack open the min air screw is opening the throttle manually, which in turn opens the TPS. All the TPS is is a variable resistor. Just...

Help! '85 nash OD acting stupid

Sounds like a sticking valve in the valve body of the OD, IMO. You should not have OD in first gear. Drop the OD oil pan (get a new filter while you're at it.). Then remove the OD valve body and clean it. Back when I had the 4+3 I've had small pieces of the gasket come off and jam in the...

    Help! transmission conversion for '84

I know this is a couple of months old, but browsing some old topics. I put the Richmond 6 speed in my '86: Corvette Richmond 6-Speed Transmission Installation

Help! Over Drive in 4+3 Transmission

If his OD light is turned on on the dash, then I'm almost positive the OD relay is working. Pretty sure they're in parallel to one another. At that point, you need to look at the OD itself. Fluid level, OD solenoid (located in the OD valve body), sticking valves in the valve body. After...

    Ghost flames

If you want to see some cool flames, there was a "Rides" show (On Discovery HD, I believe), and the guy painted realistic fire. It was photo like. Really incredible.

    Important! WAVE has been saved!

Maybe cuz I'm in the Detroit area, but I'd say about 90% of Vette owners wave, regardless of model.

Help! No spark on an '86 Vette

DING DING DING! We have a winner! It was the pickup coil. Wire WAS broken. Replace with new coil, fired up like a champ (besides a couple of trouble codes... doh!)

Help! No spark on an '86 Vette

I did transfer the ground tab (came new with the new ignition coil I bought), and installed a new button and spring. Have not checked the pickup coil... quick google says measure it's resistance, between 800-900 ohms, correct?

Comparing 6 speed to 4+3 manual.

Having the original 4+3 in my '86, then replacing it with a Richmond 6 speed after the 2nd time it died, the 6 speed is WAAYY more fun, and the car is much faster. I always thought that 3rd gear in the 4+3 was anemic. Corvette Richmond 6-Speed Transmission Installation In addition, it's...

Help! No spark on an '86 Vette

Had Autozone check the ignition module and it was fine (the guy tested it about 10 times)... What else?

Help! No spark on an '86 Vette

Yeah, it's spinning. Can it be the ignition module at this point?
