Help! Engine Sputters & Chugs at low RPMs

Turned out #6 cylinder spark plug was fouled. Changed the plug and it runs like new. Pretty sure my valve stem seals are leaking and will have to see over time if that is what caused the fouled plug.

    Excessive Cabin Heat

We bought our '79 last summer and it was a cool evening when I bought the car; didn't notice the heat problem. Later in the summer it felt like I had the heater on high and we nearly baked! I actually heard of this solution from someone on this site. I believe my mechanic actually got the...

    Excessive Cabin Heat

I had the exact same problem with my '79. We were going to need to get behind the dash to resolve the problem with either a valve, damper or both. So instead we installed a manual shut-off valve in the heater hose going to the heater core. Problem solved completely! Elliott

    Replacing in-dash tachometer

Got it. That will be very helpful. Thanks! Elliott

    Replacing in-dash tachometer

I wasn't aware that the dash needed to be removed. I noticed some screws on the dash and it appeared it would come out the front. I have no plans to remove the dash, that is more than what I want to take on. TX Elliott

    Replacing in-dash tachometer

I need to replace the in-dash tach in my 79 vette as it registers far too high. Is that common for them to fail in that manner? Anyway, I have not looked at any manuals, but it appears to be a straight forward removal from the face of the dash. Any pitfalls or issues I need to be aware of...

I will certainly give that a try. Thanks for the input!

Help! Engine Sputters & Chugs at low RPMs

In the last several hundred miles my 79 corvette has developed a sputter & chugging when starting from a stop or at low rpms. It doesn't pause or jerk like when an accellator pump fails; just sputters and doesn't run smooth as it used to. If I throttle up the engine it goes away and still...

Question: Any Suggestions For Upgraded Sound System?

I'm interested if anyone is willing to share success they've had in upgrading their sound systems. Options using or replacing the stock radio. I have what I believe to be the original AM/FM Cassette radio. Original front speakers, but not very hearty. Back speakers are gone, replaced by some...

    T Tops

Just be careful if you buy new ones that you get what you are paying for. It's my understanding there are two primary types (manufacturers) of glass; PPG and LOF. One of my mirrored tops shattered and it was marked Solar Cool, which I understood to be a trademark of PPG. I paid more money to...

No More Buying Power Window Switches

Nut, thanks for posting this info. I had the same problem and finally got around to working on the switch. Had to remove the seats, etc. just as you mentioned. Followed your directions and salvaged the switch. Super glued the other one while I had it out. Thanks again for sharing!!

No More Buying Power Window Switches

Found them, as you suggested, buried in the carpet mat. Ended up removing both seats (pretty easy, actually), both side carpet panels and removed the screws on both sides of the console giving me just enough room that I could get underneath to remove the switch. Just as indicated, the circuit...

No More Buying Power Window Switches

OK, I get it. The bolts are on the bottom. What I understood was that when I removed 3 bolts on the side, the center instrument panel could then be removed to access the switch. So logic suggested to me that the bolts would be on the top; not the bottom, which is why I began peeling the...

No More Buying Power Window Switches

The screws must be located on the bottom edge of the panel and I admit I was looking for them on the top edge. Just need to tear it out and worry about regluing the carpet later. Thanks for your help!

No More Buying Power Window Switches

I finally got around to trying to get to my driver's side power window switch. I was surprised to find the carpet glued to a thin fiber board running along side the center gauge panel. You mention 3 screws, but I didn't find one towards the front under the dash. Are the two remaining screws...

    What is your "other car"

I also have a 1964 Fairlane 500 Sports Coupe. Built a garage to store it and my 79 vette. Our daily driver used to be a Chrysler 300M, but am very ashamed to admit that when it's lease expired a few years ago my wife talked me into . . . here it comes . . . a Chrysler mini-van. :-(

    Help! Power Steering Problem

When I bought my 79 coupe the power steering pump leaked and a rebuilt from Ecklers came with the car. A few weeks later I had it installed, then the first time I took the car out and "pushed" the engine, it immediately kicked off the belt. When I took it back in to my mechanic he showed me...

Question: I need further clarification please.

I just received my AIM and will check to see what it says. If, indeed, it is lower the stock, how do I determine if it is the spring? Is it a given that is the case?
