    84 vet AC "evaporator"

Folks, In checking Rock Auto, they do not have an 'evaporator' for a 1984, only a evaporator 'repair kit'. They do have the evaporator for a 1985 - 1989, I called Rock Auto, they were unable to tell me if the evaporator for a 1985 - 1989 would work on my 1984. So my question is will an...

    84 vet AC "evaporator"

LLC5, We checked the AC system, it held the pressure without being A C/ engine turned on. We used a freon detector, (a wand type of instrument) a sniffer, we checked ALL of the R12 connectors, connections, and NO freon detected. Then we turned the temp control inside the car to Max, turned on...

    84 vet AC "evaporator"

I've located some R12 'compatible gas' which is MFG & sold in Canada, it's flamable, but apparently it's twice as effeicent as R12 - meaning you only use 1/2 the amount of the gas, and it's 100% compatible with R12. and it's cheap. I was thinking, don't replace the evaporator and perhaps I...

    84 vet AC "evaporator"

Hello Folks, Have searched this forum and others, and all I read is, it's not fun . . . I have a "very" small leak in my R12 freon, (1984) AC system - which has been identified from a freon leak detector coming from the AC evaporator. So, I am looking for some suggestions, instructions or...

    Idle and digital dash

I have a '84 that had high idle, similar to yours, then at trigged an check engine, which as code 21 = throttle position sensor - replaced the TBS, and the car now idles like it should, (700 RPM) and runs SMOOTHLY. The TBS may be your problem as well.

Folks, Since I've had some excellent comments / results from ya'll, I thought I would ask for a few more suggestions: 1.) I need to replace the upper / lower radiator hoses, I am looking at the Goodyear pre-cut and the Gates cut your own. Any comments or other suggestions? 2.) Need to...

    1984 Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

Folks, It was bad TPS - installed a new TBS, set it to .525 volts, and even DID NOT have to reset the ECM or disconnect the battery, it automatically cleared the code 21. The new TPS made a huge difference on cold starts and idling. Again, MANY THANKS to you folks - this is a great forum . . ...

    1984 Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

Hib, Perhaps there is some confusion - my 1984 vet, is running the 195* thermostat, not a 180*.

lt1george - thanks, I do value your comments, as I currently running the stock 195* thermostat, and about to replace it, and was "KINDA" thinking of a 180*, after your posts, definately will install a 195*. No harm, no foul . . .:thumb:thumb

    1984 Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

Folks, As noted in my OP, all comments are welcomed - as I may not have the technical skills to fix cars, I am eager to learn, and listen . . . And I make mistakes along the way. I greatly appreciate all of the comments here, as I attempt to isolate and fix car problems as they surface. But...

    1984 Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

It1-george Thanks for the "heads-up" on the 195* thermostat . . . The car has 35K miles on it, I bought in 1985, so it's running the original 195* thermostat. I am planning to replace the thermostat and hoses shortly, so your comments are appreciated. I too had been thinking about going with...

    1984 Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

Hib, Again, "many" thanks . . . Do I have to be concerned if I order the Standard Motor Products TBS - as I may have heard bad things about this company? Also take a look at the 2nd pic I have attached (Throttle Position Sensor-2), as I have highlighted a red arrow to this Metal Step, is this...

    1984 Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

Gents - all great posts . . . Hib, Should I buy an ACDELCO TPS for 2-3X as much as a Standard Motor Products TPS ? Does the TPS have an O-ring that connects to the throttle body? In the pic I posted on this post, I highlighted (red) a "metal pedal" located on the TPS, - what's the purpose of...

    1984 Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

I have the FSM . . . If I replace the TPS with a new one, and set the volts at .54 on idle, and 5.0 volts at WOT (per the FSM). Do I also have to set / adjust the (2) Air Idle Controls (AIC)?

    1984 Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

Folks, Thanks for the replies . . . As previously stated, I have an 1984, and the Check Engine, code = "21" - in the FSM, it specifically says check the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). There were no other codes. And why do you suggest that it's not my TPS and is my Intact Air Control (IAC)...
