Just changed oil and used the new Mobile full synthetic 0W-30W. Not in the vett--in the 4.6l Ford. Of course it's supposed to improve performance & gas consumption. Right? :eyerole

With the "0" rating, the only downside I can see is the oil pressure may be low when oil is fully warmed up, engine in gear at idle.

Most move in the opposite direction as their engine packs on the mileage, going to 10w30 to keep the hot, idle, in gear oil pressure up. You'll know if you begin getting a blinking low oil pressure light when stopped at, say, a traffic light.

I believe the oil viscosity thing is not well understood. Perhaps I'm one of those that doesn't get it. Having said that, I believe the first rating, in this case "0", is the viscosity @ stp (standard temp. & pressure) i.e., cold. And the second "30" is the viscosity @ some operating point...in the case of most cars somewhere in the 180-220F range. Now if this is right "0" @ start up would be desireable. 'Till the engine warms up, thick oil just wastes fuel.

Beats me, I was also looking for clarification and Jake and Junk know what they're talking about.
