12 CD Remote Changer (HELP)

Need some help with troubleshooting my remote (trunk) 12 disc CD Player. Everything is done by the book when inserting the CD's. I can hear it searching the CD's and the CD icon blinks on the radio while its searching. When it completes the search I get an "err" (error) message on the radio. Ive checked everything and before going to the dealer thought I would try and tap your expertise.

You may have one of the CD's in up-side down. Check that!
Or one of the CD's is bad and the changer cannot read it.

When you load the cds the 12-pack does a catalog on all the cds.
It is reading one or more bad cds.

To discover which one(s). Remove all the cd's and start loading a cd at a time.

If the above process does NOT work. Then you might have a problem.
Dealer time.

I had a simular problem and all of the cd were upside down, Real easey and embarasing fix

Hi there,
I would also suggest that you unplug the back of the changer for about 2 minutes.
This will reset the changer, as there may be a communications glitch within the E and C line.

I had a problem with mine. Found out that the CD's need to be placed in the holder upside down. Not with labels up. Hope this helps. :duh

Gentlemen Ive tried all the helpful tips that you provided and I still get the err message. I guess its Dealer time. Im just not convinced that the dealer can isolate the problem other then telling me that I need a new unit. I guess we'll see. I do want to thank each and every one of you. I do thank you.

Before you buy a new one, if it is broken and not covered by warrenty, try ebay. Most of the late model GM cars use the same 12 CD changer. I bought one for under $200. A lot of people are replacing them with XM Satellite Radio so there should be plenty out there.

Just put "cd changer gm" in the search (without quotes).
