;helpDoes anyone know how far the exhaust pipe sticks out pass the bumper on a '57?

I set the ends of mine out about 3/8" beyond the bumper so the dripping condensate wouldn't eat the chrome and the bumper steel under it. :)

Back in 1961, when I had my 56 (should be the same set-up as the 57), I replaced the mufflers with OEM mufflers and had the same problem of how far out to stick the exhaust pipe from the chrome bumper. I stuck it out about 1 inch (my college room mate had a 57 and I measured his). Being somewhat of a clutz, I did not want to want to bump me knee against the tail pipe. The problem I always had was that the exhaust pipes would rattle against the interior ring in the rear vertical bumper. I stuffed some asbestos material around them to stop the rattling. Rattling was especially annoying when I had the top down because my hearing was a lot better 45+ years ago. Now I probably wouldn't hear it at all. I think it is a matter of preference and how much slack you have between the muffler and the end of the tail pipe. As I remember it (the memory does fade somewhat with age), there was a separate tail pipe section that attached to the outlet of the muffler.

Thanks for the info, it does have a add on to the muffler, but extended way beyond the bumper, both sides different, could find no pictures or judging info. thanks again everyone
