Does anyone know anything about this?

A man I know has a 1959 Corvette convertible, he said he bought it in Germany a long time ago, and the claim is it once belonged to Princess Grace of Monaco. I have seen the circular tag that goes on the trunk lid that says Monaco on it... and the tag on the frame under the hood says this: General Motors (France) S.A. au Capital de 174.900.000 Frs 56a60 Avenue Louis-Roche Gennevilliers (Seine) The chassis no is : J59S-102946 The Moteur No is F 1229 DJ Cylinders : 8-98 42X76 20 It is Blue and white, and is an automatic. He has never done any real research on it,,,, he thought that it was assembled in France... is this possible? The car is all together... I have pictures. Do you have any record of a car like this existing? Can the story be true? It has been lost to the world in a garage for a long long time...

That's a "homologation tag", installed at the European port of entry by GM and each country's registration authorities when the car was converted to European specifications back in the 50's-60's; the car was built in St. Louis and exported from Baltimore. Very common. The car's past ownership is anyone's guess.

2946 is listed in the '59 Registry as being privately owned in GA with no other info. I seem to remember something about this car in either the SACC or NCRS magazine. I'll make sure that Jim sees this thread.

Needs a Monoco DMV Search

It may sound stupid, but the Monoco DMV may have more records than we think.

Friends that have retrieved cars out of Europe have found remarable records of vehicles at the local and country DMV's. You just need a friendly local to help you do the leg work.
