1962 340hp both tops
I am trying to find the p/n for an original camshaft for 62 340HP 327 corvette, and the specifications for the camshaft, and a location where one can be purchased. Mine has the original camshaft but it appears that some of the lobes are worn down. If I can't locate an original, I need the cam specifications and name of a company that can make me a camshaft. Some people tell me it's called a Duntov 097 cam, and I know Argus Duntov designed this for the high HP 62 vettes, one source told me that there is one camshaft for 340horse mechanical lifter engine, and another camshaft for the 360hp FI, mechanical...I don't think so but would appreciate any help I can get as I love the wumpty wump sound from this camshaft, and want to keep my engine pure original. My problem is finding someone that KNOWS what he is talking about, not someone with an opinion. Thank you for any help, vett62

The 097 Duntov was used in all solid lifter applications from 1957 through the end of 1963 production. This would include 283s in 270, 283, 290 and 315 horsepower and 327s in 340 and 360 horsepower. The camshaft changed in 1964 for the 327 in 365 and 375 horsepower. There are a few companies that make a new service replacemant cam for this application including the one listed above. If you want exact specs on this cam I can list them but right now I'm being called for dinner.

The original "097" Duntov cam (P/N 3736097, casting #3736098) had 228* intake and 230* exhaust duration @.050", .394" intake and .400" exhaust gross lift (with 1.5:1 stock rockers), and 108* lobe separation. The Speed-Pro/Federal-Mogul/ Sealed Power #CS-113R is a blueprint duplicate of the original.

It uses ordinary stock valve springs - GM #3911068 or Federal-Mogul #VS-677; 80# closed, 200# open at 1.25".

Just purchased lifters and cam from Car Quest for my 61 315-HP FI project. I have also used the same cam and lifters in my 61 270-HP and 63 340-HP engines. My engine machinist was telling me that many of the aftermarket/racing cam manufactures are having hard times. This economy is going to affect allot of companies.

The "hot" setting for the 327 application is .008"/.018"; setting them at .008"/.016" cold works fine, if you have stock stamped rocker arms.

The spec sheet from Federal Mogul shows the CS113R to have a LSA of 110 degrees, which is supposedly identical to the original 097 cam.

Perhaps what you meant by "108* lobe separation" is that the cam is ground with 2 degrees of advance, also same as original, which puts the intake lobe center at 108 degrees, and the exhaust lobe center at 112 degrees.

The notation I like to use for any cam timing is "intake center/lobe center/exhaust center", which inherently shows advance/retard.
In the case of the "Duntov", the full notation would read:

108/110/112

And don't forget proper camshaft assembly lube and breakin oil since the oils nowdays don't have zinc. If you don't compensate and break it in right with RPM and lubricants you'll probably wipe a lobe.
