I bought this car from Bedford, PA(fill in the blank yourself of the seller). I was told the body was all original and not molested, "cherry", but after 5 minutes of inspection I have determined that the front upper surround, left fender, and both rear quarters have been replaced.
This car was originally Good wood Green with Green Interior. It has a 6500 redline tach, so it might have been an original 427 car, but that doesn't really much matter now.

I am not 100 percent sure of the plans for the engine as of yet, but it will get the SRIII Chassis with all C6 suspension and Z06 Brakes.
Color will either be Silver/gray with red interior or Blue with??? color interior.

Some of the best fitting doors I have ever seen on a midyear.

Discovery of more damage

This is underneath the passenger fender where someone made a piss poor repair bonding the skirt back to the fender. Obviously these are all things that anybody even somewhat experienced with Midyear vettes would know to look for.

Passenger side. The amount of paint and filler on the front end is Impressive. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on this one since the repair was difficult to see.

Hole in the rear. I was aware of this, but I was told the fiberglass was all original and that it was just a hole from someone lightly bumping something into the car. One look underneath and this repair tells a much different story. He must have looked underneath. There wasn't a gas tank in place, so this was highly visible.

More goodies up front. Looks like I've got my work cut out for me.

Well, after poking around a little more I discovered the front end is just way to fudged to repair for this car. So, off it came. After removal I discovered two mice nests in the birdcage. I was wondering where the smell was coming from that I could not eradicate. If i had not pulled the front end, the car would have smelled like mouse piss for eternity.
I'll salvage the skirts and the driver's louver panel from the front end, but that is about it.

The first picture shows how the right front fender came apart from the cowl section. I did not break any fiberglass...all i did was take a heat gun and dig out the old adhesive and bondo. A large section about 2" by 1" around the windshield was nothing but filler, no fiberglass.

Birdcage looks excellent...just needs a good cleaning followed by some new paint and sealant.

Not sure what the mess is in the wiper cowl pockets, but it breaks loose pretty easily.

I'm in about 25 hours on stripping the paint with a razor blade then lightly sanding the primer off with a DA sander.
Unfortunately, the roof has been off the car and was bonded back on with an inferior substance that is still gooey....looks like body filler. In addition, no adhesive was used on the sides of the tub. So, the entire roof will need to come off of the car. Although the quarters are not original to the car, they are very nice and are without holes.
I always said that I would end up keeping one of my cars and this might be the one.

Passenger door has some minor damage, but at least it was repaired correctly.

Not much going on with this build. I set the new front end on the car, but I am still waiting on the louver panels, L88 67 Hood, and taillamp panel from Sermersheim.
In addition, I haven't heard from the guy that was supposed to make my quarter panels, so I will be ordering the wider quarters from JM in Florida. JM quarter panels do not require modifications to the bumper brackets, so that is obviously a plus.
Anyway, she looks a whole lot better with a front clip. The fender skirts belong to my 63 and will be removed after fitment.

The fiberglass finally showed up after being in order for 6 months and some change. Now the facial reconstructive surgery can begin.
Btw, due to a recent fuss, let me reiterate that these builds are my cars. I own them and they are registered in my name only. I don't take in client cars. I sell the leftover parts because I don't need them. I am not s used parts vendor of any kind.

I sanded the upper window surround, removed the old seam sealer, sanded the surface rust off the upper birdcage, sanded the wiper cowls, coated the inside of the upper cage with black epoxy primer, sealed the lower window channel with 3m panel bond, sanded the cage again, sprayed with green zinc oxide primer, and then finally bonded the front end in place.
I forgot to take pictures after spraying the upper cage with the green zinc oxide. I just brushed the epoxy primer on but it looked great after lightly sanding and top coating with the zinc oxide primer.

Well, today was fun. I removed the quarters and made the decision to remove the roof as well. Whatever was used to bond the rear end panels in place was not an adhesive, but a filler. The panels came off very easily.
I also sanded and installed the drivers fender skirt and louver panel plus riveted the radiator support bracket to the fender skirt. To say I'm worn out would be an understatement...thankful it's Friday!!!

I spent the last two days prepping the roof to be reinstalled. The pine tar crap someone applied to the underside of the roof was a nightmare to remove. Also, whatever goo they used to bond the roof on smelled like cat urine, especially when heated. It was so bad I started dry heaving yesterday when I took my mask off.
Today I cleaned the rest of the roof, made new repairs, then bonded it in correctly with 3m panel bond.

Do you have a big shop? Because you have this one and the 63 going at the same time (according to the dates posted on the pictures). Keep on saving those mid-years. :thumb

I have a decent size shop. I never intended to get this many projects going at once, but since two were not as advertised and ended up being major projects needing excessive amounts of body work and new panels, I've become backed up since I put those two on hold. I actually have 4 Corvettes right now...the 63 split window, a 63 convertible, a 67 convertible, and the 67 coupe, plus a 67 Mustang fastback Restomod, a 1961 Austin Healey, and a 1954 Austin Healey.

are these all YOUR projects, or builds for others, or combination.

I just saw this thread. very impressive work. Looks like you have room to work and don't have to worry about cold weather which is great. I'll be watching.:thumb

Another very ambitious project. I have had and/or helped with several projects where it seemed like the previous owner spent far more time doing the repair incorrectly than it would have taken to do it right. My '59 was such a project. I appears that you found another. It's nice to see it going back together.

Tom

Thank you for all of the great pictures and description!! I'm loving the project!!
