I'm looking at buying a 68 vette convertible 327 4speed. The owner tells me its a limited model with
"as far as which option it was it took me about 5hrs of research on the net to find it , as you may well know chevy clouded there whole lineup of perfomrance vehicles with codes to get some over on the insurance companys which they sure did , if im not mistaken the option was l34 for 1968 model year corvette only, this is often confused with big block cars from other model lines like chevelle , or other years like 70 l34 is prolly a lt-1 350 or a 350 hp big block , it may be l33 , not sure , but the alum intake tips it off , along with the valve covers, and massive holley 4 bbl MECH secondary , and a huge fuel line , x cam , and a delete car, except for heatthis tips it off to being more than just a reg 350hpcar(which have fac iron intake manifolds) owners quote!

He says its some type of scca race car option. I don't know..

The vin is 194678S424073 front block pass side 186424073 V06I8HT.

Can someone help me out?....

The vin is 194678S424073 front block pass side 186424073 V06I8HT.

The engine code is probably V061 8HT. Built in the Flint engine plant, 6th month, 18th day. HT desigantes it as a 327, 350 hp engine with Rochester 4BBL, and "special cam".The block casting number should be 3914678, head number 3917291 or 3917292. Carb should be 7028219. The VIN puts it near the end of production for 68s in August 1968.

The small blocks were all equiped with Rochester carbs, Holleys were on the big blocks according to my books. i do not find an aluminum intake listed for the 68 327. Facorty stock wiould be #3919803. Some of the C2 327s came with a Holley & aluminum intake and the 350 in 70, 71, 72 had a Holley with aluminum intake. Casting numbers from the block & intake, as well as the numbers on the carbwould be helpful.

Covette black book lists option L79 as the 327ci 350 hp of which 9440 were built (out of a total production for 68 of 28566), option N11 as the off road exhaust.

I have not read of any special factory racing options execpt for the L88.

The CAC 1968 model page lists a L36 327ci, 390hp option but this is a typo as the L36 was a 427.

I'm sure if you check the NCRS folks, they can tell you if there was ever a 68 special small block racing option.

IMHO, although this may be a dealer modified car, the intake & carb have been changed and are probably not original to the car...but I've been wrong before.:duh

No "special race option" small-blocks in '68 - "HT" says it started life as a 327/350hp L-79, and '67 was the last year for a Holley of any kind on a small-block. The guy hasn't a clue what he's talking about - is he a Marketing Major? ;LOL

isnt that usually the case.:eyerole

If you're still interested in the vette...

...I'd take this information (in a nice, kind way...) and present it to him in a way that makes you look like you know what you're talking about...

...and negotiate a better price!
