;helpI have my frame complely stripped but have not been able to remove the crossmember. I have removed the two bolts, bent down the tabs on the cushion and even slightly heated but have not been able to get it to drop down. any thoughts or ideas would be great.

John Z did an article on crossmember mount removal/replacement in a recent issue of Corvette Enthusiast. The gist is that mount replacement is more involved than it might look. My advice is to leave the crossmember installed unless removing it is an absolute must.

:)

The tabs are for the bushings,no need to bend them to remove the complete CM. With the 2 bolts out the only thing holding it on are the tapers of the mounts which are probably rusted. I use a 2' bar but if you have room then a 5' bar will work, otherwise a couple of wedges from each side may also work. Be careful if you try a 2 or 3 jaw puller, it could distort the sombero and if you break the weld will have to replace it.

Remove the bolts, rent a porta-power with a "duck-bill". Use the porta-power to pop the x-member off.

I did that with my 71 when I had to replace the big rubber isolators.

athanks for the input,I finaly put a little heat to it and drove enough wedge in to get it to pop. wish I had thought of the porta power I had one in the shop????.
Frame is off to powder coaters should have it back Monday
