I know this thread started a couple of years ago, but, I had my diff rebuilt a couple of years ago and had the same problem. Horrible noise after warm up. Sounded like the rear was going to fall off. I tried the figure 8's and more additive. Didn't work. I saw some one said to try the GM diff fluid and additive. Last weekend I had this done, changed out the fluid. Told them I wanted old fashioned petroleum base fluid from GM and the GM additive. I am very happy to say the sound is completely gone. Try it, you'll like it.
You're 100% correct, some things can be improved on but in this case using the GM additive and a good gear oil is all you need. I use the Lucas 85-140 oil but the GM 90 wt will work as well. Glad to hear you solved the problem.
