1976 Steering Wheel

Hey, question for the 1976 guys, has anyone replaced the steering wheel? With out replacing the column with a 1977 one. I know 76 was a one of a kind year and that's why I want to keep the orginal wheel or one like it. I do have an old one. I am removing the vinyl covering and hope to get it chrome plated and leather covered.
I am doing the custom thing, not sure it will work though, becasue I am having lots of trouble finding a "good condition wheel" in buckskin!
So what I really want to know is what adapter works to mount one of the after market wheels on the "76"?

From what i've read you only need an adapeter if you do NOT have a wheel with tilt/tele.

That's what I have heard. I have a tilt columb but I can't seem to get it telescope so I am not real sure. I am going under the assumption I have the tilt/tele columb, which of course makes it harder to find a replacement wheel.

the 76 telescoping wheel uses the trim ring that surrounds the horn button. Turn it counter clockwise to loosen, telescope as needed, then turn the trim ring clockwise to lock in place.

Thank you Bright Yellow, I will try it when I get home. I appreciate the info.
