1979 or 1980?

go by the vin and engine stamp code. was real popular to but 80 front and rear clips on older vettes. the 80 to 82 i think have great looking front and rear clips. you see a lot of rear clips from those cars on 74 to 79 years. hell if you dont care about originality go for it will make a great looking car

Right side on front of engine under the A/C Compressor.
there is a boss on the front of the engine
with the code and vin of the vette

It wasn't unusual for owners to put nose's and tails of the 80's vettes on the earlier C-3's.as some people thought they were
'sportier' looking than the 70's nose's and tails

Bill's right.

There are LOTS of 74-79s with 80-82 noses and tails.

The question is... do you like it that way? I'm thinking you do. :D

I live in Arizona, no way I can keep this car black... I would like to though.

Last question about this topic.

Are the rear fender flares on the 79 and 80 the same?

I don't think there is any difference between the 1979 & 1980 REAR Fender, of course there is a major difference from the 1979 & the 1980 with the rear END.

There is a difference in the front FENDERS ;) from the wider stance of the fender to match the built in air spoiler/dam and the gills verse's cutouts on the side in back of the wheels. Also note the hood is very different between the two years ;) :dance

Is the emmisions modifications the reason you don't think you'll keep it? Or ??

I would think AZ has some regulations exempting older vehicles.. As I recall a member in Tucson lic. her 1981 this way to bypass the AZ SMOG!! requirements ;shrug

If I'm right the 80 is the first one with a alu diff, so easy to see the difference. :)

Greetings Peter

the rear end is not a alloy its the rear cover that is . the rear support member is incorporated as the rear diff cover, making it more tuff to do gear swaps and your correct easy way to tell not 100 percent sure but i know the 81 had an oil pressure gauge in the center console since radios went to digital clock not sure if you can tell on an 80 if it has a oil pressure temp guage then you know its not a 79 just not hundred percent sure if the 80 had a oil temp guage

The rims are pre-'80, likely 1979. (the center is black and the rim itself isn't polished)
Also, wasn't 1980 the first year for the 85mph speedo?
Not that there's much doubt that you have a 1979 with '80 clips on the front/rear.

I have a 80, the speedo was the 85 mph, but if i recall some of the late 79 productoins got the 85 mph speedo when gm ran out of the old ones. the 80 i have is a early 80, built in Oct 79 and only has oil pressure no oil temp gauge. It does has the alum rear end on it.

I would say one of the previous owners put the 80 style front and rear clips on the car.

Mike.
