OK, I've yet to find the answer to this...

Some of the 80's had dual-snorkle air intake, others have single. I thought at first it was due to being either the L48 (single) or L82 (dual) engine config. But this doesn't seem to be the case. What was the determining factor? Build date?

All I have to go on thus far is that my car was born October '79. When I got it, it had the dual intake, but the L48 engine (as the VIN shows also). It wouldn't surprise me though to know that one of the previous owners had changed it to dual if it wasn't like this from the factory.

From all the info I have, the calif 305 had the single intake, all others L48 and L82 had the dual.

I too thought the difference was L-48 or L-82. On my 80 L-82 it is a dual snorkel

On pre 80 models the deciding factor is L48 or L82. All 1980 '350' engines are dual.

My 80 came with a 305 engine the LG4.It now has a rebuilt 350 with dual intake.I thought all 80`s came with dual snorkel air intake.Didn`t they change to dual in 78?

I had a 1984 Z28 H.O. It had a 305 with 190 HP and a dual snorkle air cleaner. You can still get the air cleaner scoops and ducting from the dealer for a fair price.

Now see, that's what I thought too, BUT....I've seen plenty of original 1980's that have the single intake. So it seems there is still some mystery to the history... I'm looking for that "for sure, without a doubt, 100% positive" answer, and then something to back it up.

Evo- Thats interesting,I have never seen a 1980 with a single. My original GM catalog for an 80 only shows a single for the Calif-305 edition.
