1981 matching numbers

I am considering purchasing a 1981 corvette. Having problems with matching numbers. The VIN shows the car was manufactured in Bowling Green in 1981. The engine stamp shows the engine was manufactured in St Louis on September 1980. The last 6 digits of the stamp does not match the VIN number. I could not find any record of engines manufactured in Bowling green. How can I verify this car has matching numbers?

Pictures of the block numbers and the vin number would help to confirm, but from what you're saying is the vin number on the block does not match the vin number on the windshield pillar is a telltale sign that it is not a matching numbers car.
