Now that my lil baby is painted , I'm moving to the inside to complete the restoration. I have already purchased the rear replacement speakers, and need help with the dash speakers.

QUESTIONS: What size are the dash speakers, and how are they removed from the dash ?
Have taken the grills off and did not notice if the speakers came out from the top, or from under the dash. Knowing what size to look for would help narrow down my search for new ones. I am only interested in replacing with something close to the original specs. (not into the BOOM-BOOM effect at 50 years old)....

By the way- when the paint shop lets me take her home next week, I'll post a pic or 2 of her new paint- AWESOME doesnt come close !!!!
thanks for all the help guys and gals. mike j.

They are 4x6" and they come out from the top. There should be 2 screws towards the edge away from the windshield. Then lightly pry out the old ones with a flat tip screwdriver. You can find many replacement speakers as this is a popular size that's still used today. The only thing you want to be careful of is making sure that the speaker magnet is not too big as well as making sure that the tweeter doesn't come out too high, preventing the grills from sitting flush. Other than that you should be fine. Also, don't worry about getting too much "boom boom" from these little speakers as they are not capable of low frequency sound. Good luck!

Jeremy- thanks a million- big help. have a great weekend. mike j.

No, the rear is not hard either. The speaker is attached to a grill which has two bolts on it that sits in a bracket that's attached to the car. You should be able to just lift it up as I remember. Mine only had 1 and I ended up taking it out because the speakers I put in had bigger magnets and wouldn't fit in the exact correct postition with the bracket there. So, anyway, even though they are good speakers that I put in, they sound awfull because there is no place for them to resonate. The fronts actually produce more bass because of this. So, I'm planning on soon building some nice speaker boxes to go in those locations. There have been a few posts already on that subject and some cool pictures/design ideas. Good luck!
