Hey, All

I have an '84 where I have been fighting a rough idle issue for years. So, today I had some free time and was playing around with the EGR test path in the factory manual. Turns out even at idle, I was getting vacuum to the EGR valve. I unplugged the vacuum line from the EGR valve and blocked it off--the car idles like a fine switch watch.

Now, my problem seems to be that my solenoid is bad. And of course, it's disco.

Has anyone found a suitable replacement for this part? If not, I may just get rid of the EGR system. I have been driving it around and it's not throwing any codes, which is a good thing.

Spring and Summer and looking better and better.

Jason

Thanks, Ted.
I will try that and see if I get lucky

A lot of 84 owners talk about removing it all together. Inside the intake manifold is an EGR hump, I don't know what is does but when people port the intake manifold, they remove this hump and remove the EGR. Is there any effects on milege with it disconnected?

I went ahead and ordered the block off plate from Advance Auto and I've already put a vacuum cap on the line from the TB to the solenoid. I think I'm gonna just do away with it for now. I recycle, so it's okay if I burp a little smog into the air.

My AIR system is gone and my cats and EGR are soon to be gone. My car is not a daily driver and might only see a few thousand miles a year or less, so I don't lose any sleep over a few extra possible pollutants. No inspection in my area either.
