Hi, I am new at the site and maybe someone can help me out. I have a 1985 C4 that I purchased before winter. I am trying to get it back to restored condition. I had to replace the stock delco bose radio with a upgraded delco bose radio which sounds great. My problem is that I can only get the rear speakers to work. I have no sound coming from the 2 front door speakers. My question is could this be a bad amp for the front speakers and if so were is the amp located at or is it just bad speakers or could it be both. Any help would very appreciated. Thanks. Bill :confused

I believe those amps are in or on the speaker box in the door. Did the fronts ever work? does this new stereo have a fader control to fade front/rear? or is it left/right? The fronts might not be connected. Usually when they fail they make some sort of static or noise..

Pull the stereo head unit and see if you can find the front speaker wires and how they are connected, or IF they are connected.

What was the cost of the new unit if I may ask? I looked at the OEM replacement and it was wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to high.

The new stereo has no fader control it is left to right as far as the old stereo it did not work thats why I went with the upgraded delco bose. I found the stereo on ebay there is a guy in MN that sells them for around $345 there is 1 right now on ebay with no reserve plus the speakers with only 1 bid at $20 as for the new stereo when installing it,it looked like the wires were hooked up guess I will have to check again.

You could try to connect the wires for the rear speakers up temporarily to the front speakers to see it they work. It might mean a little wire splicing but it would be easier than removing the speakers from the door. You should be able to race the wires from the wiring harness on the radio to determine which ones go to what speakers.

( Looking at the stereo today I do see that it has a fader control button) but I don't know if it has anything to do with the front door speakers from not working !!!

The fade control button controls the amount of front or back speakers you hear. When it is turned all the way to the right you will only get the back speakers and all the way to the left will only have the front speakers. When turning the knob you will feel it go into a detent at the halfway point between right and left that is were the front and back speakers are equally balanced

A.K.A. as the half-split rule in troubleshooting. Take the portion that works and connect it to what doesn't, isolating where the problem is.

In this case, either the feed (head unit) or something between the head unit and speakers is faulty. Swapping the leads will tell you where to look next.

I have used a small battery AAA or AA, to test speakers. Jumper a small voltage, very briefly, to the speaker inputs to produce small "pops".
