Recently purchased a 1985 LT1 Vette that had an engine noise. This noise was present upon first starting up and would disappear after a few minutes of running. Compression was 160 lbs in each cylinder, no apparent oil problems(didn't use oil), engine didn't miss or lope. Thinking that I would have to overhaul this engine, I purchased this vette for a deal. To make a long story short, after using my stethascope, isolated the noise to be somewhere between the transmission and engine. Remobed the flywheel cover and found the three bolts loose, tightened then up to proper ft lbs and the engine noise completely cleared up. This might help others.

Thanks for the heads-up on your experience Doc, hopefully it will help someone who hears a similar noise and can't figure it out. :CAC
