you think that is low milage?
I was glancing thru a 2003 past issue of Corvette Fever magazine yesterday and one of the articles was about a guy who tracked down an original 1968 L88 car with only 5000 miles on it. EVERYTHING was absolutely original - the paint, interior, motor, even the tires! Car looked like it just pulled out of the showroom floor yesterday.
He bought it from the original owner.
turns out the first owner bought the car to race it than never did. The wife hated the car because it scared her so they never drove it and than they had kids so it just sat there and sat there.
For the longest time the "rumors" of this car were all over the place and the new owner tracked it down with a lot of legwork and finally found the car with the original owner but the guy said it wasn't for sale. He asked if he could at least come and see the car as he was a NCRS judge and a truely original car like that was a great source of history to learn from so the owner said sure. After seeing the car he kept in touch with the car's owner and they became good friends. After a year or two the original owner decide he would sell the car afterall so that's how the new owner got it.
The car had ALL ducumention to prove it was a true L88 car. It came with the original window sticker, tank sheet, a copy of the dealership orderbook showing when the dealership took the order from the car initially and ordered it from GM, etc. There was even a factory build form showing what optiones this car had to build it from the factory floor stuffed into one of the front spring still intact as it was such a low milage Ca. car.
What a find!!!
Also, I was at a car show yesterday and a guy had an all original '79 with just under 5000 miles. He said he will flip to 5000 miles on the car on his way home from the show.
if your interested in a REALLY low milage car, about 45 minutes away from me is another '79 one owner car with only 549 miles on it! Yep, that's not a typo. really only 549 miles. The car even still has the original window sticker still on the window! the for sale description is:
1979 Coupe, Silver with Oyster Interior, L48, Auto Trans.,Loaded Including Glass Tops, Factory Spoilers (D80), Gymkhana Susp., Etc., This One-Owner Corvette has Only 549 Miles!
I've seen the car and it is perfect. it's been stored inside a climate controlled warehouse it's whole life and looks as brand new as you would expect to be for a basically completely never used car!
