1988 - complete power loss problem

Hi folks,

Wonder if anyone can help - I bought a 1988 about 5 weeks ago - prior to today, the last time I used it was last Sunday evening, for about 5 miles, in light rain.

This morning, I started her up and she struggled a little, so I thought I'd take her out for a few miles to charge the battery - I had got about 1 mile from home, when I lost the back end very slightly on a corner, and the rear wheels hit the kerb (but only slightly) - immediately afterwards, I lost all power and the car hasn't started since.

I had to be towed back home and the car is now in my garage.

Any thoughts? - the AA guy checked for a damp distributor cap, checked 3 of the 8 spark plugs, but reckoned it must be a fuel supply problem. I'm charging the battery back up now, as it is completely dead with all the retrying to get her started.

Hope someone can help or give me somewhere to start.

Thanks,

Chris.

Thanks Len,

I've recharged the battery completely and ensured the distributor cap is free of any moisture - made no difference.

I've been listening out for the 2 second fuel pump noise that is supposed to occur when the key is moved to the 'on' position - can't say that I heard anything definite, so this may be the problem. I'm convinced its something to do with the slight kerb tap - its just to much of a coincidence that it lost power immediately afterwards.

Also thought I'd check the fuel pump fuse, but the 1988 manual kindly says this is simply 'behind the Driver Information Center - part of the I/P Harness' - not really sure where this is or how to get to it.

I'll post the fuse location query as a separate topic to see if anyone knows.

Cheers,

Chris.

this relay is it the one that turns the fuel pump off when in an accident?
