1989 DARK BLU METALIC SIX SPEED CONV
I just purchased a 1989 convertiable with six speed. My alarm system appears to be malfunctioning because when I set the alarm and then open the door to test them alarm from the inside, the alarm can be heard to setting itself by first sounding three short beep tones from the console area. followed by the security indicator light flashing on the informarion display, but the horn does not sound.

Can anyone tell me wheter or not the 1989's alarm system uses the car's horns like my 1987 coupe does or is there another horn located somewhere else under the hood? In the AM i plan on checkin the fuse just to rule out a fuse.

The 89 alarm does use the horn. Mine never sounded 3 times when setting.
It arms when you lock the dorrs with the electrick lock control (I believe on the drivers only). Sequence is: stop the car; remove key from ignition;
exit the car (all occupants); lock the doors using the electric button; close the doors. The alarm is armed now. (You must unlock the door with the key in drivers side to disarm the alarm befoe opening the door). If the alarm goes off, it can only be shut off by unlocking the door as per above.
I replaced my alarm system with a Code Alarm system - it does chirp when arming automatically 60 seconds after shutting off ignition, and has its own klaxon. It also has remote locks, and remote start = up to 150 feet.
