I am not the orignal owner of my 1989 Corvette Convert so I cannot verify that the car has orignal paint--but here is my problem. The car looks like it has a pearl color in the artic white. Most GM dealers tell me that corvette only had a straight actric white in 1989. Can anyone help? Was another white available that year that had pearl ?

Stocker:

I have heard that in fact several cars were sprayed with a pearl white at the factory but it was not a released color. (That is why the dealers would have no record of it.) However, just because the car was painted in an unreleased color does not mean that they would just trash the car. Everyone would get together decide if they like what they had done and how easy it was to accomplish. Then the car would be sold off. In the case of the pearl it was decided not to put it into production. Cadillac though did put it into production and you find the same or a similar color on their cars.

My guess is that you have a very early VIN number, last three digits less than 100. Is code 31 on the trim tag? Let us know more about the car.

Thanks George I will check to see what WA code I have on the car. I have been unsuccesful in locating the code. I spoke with another dealer today and they suggested looking under the back hatch door for the convert top or on the firewall. I will also check the VIN number to see what sequence it is.

Nope

in the Corvette Black book it states.. 27 Code 31 Arctic Pearl corvettes were produced

Yes, that is correct. My mistake. Thanks Jeff! I'll update our Specs page here.

Randy,

I think ’89 was a cool year you could get a six speed and the Atari dash.

Anyway. From the service manual the paint code is on the “Service Parts Identification Label” on the underside of the center armrest/glove box. The code is the center sequence on the bottom line. It should be 31U for pearl white.

there was an article in vette or corvette fever about those pearl white cars... Very rare, and pretty cool looking... it should pull a few extra bucks when it comes time to re-sell it:)
