I just purchased a 1993 corvette, the after market radio was missing the face plate. I bought and installed a new after market radio the radio was working fine for a while an hour or so then its started to turn on and off by its self now the car does not start the interior lights keep going on and off the radio does not turn on now and the dash is very dim the headlight dont work. Help

welcome neighbor, i guess the first thing to ask is,was anything cut or butchered ?sure sounds like something is missing a ground or something is pinched. bill

yes the original speaker wires were not used also i found that the rear speakers were not hooked up so i hooked then up. It looks like the car had an amp i see the large red wire cut at the battery. Yu can heard some sort of relay connected to the int light under the glove box tha ticks as the lights flicker.

Hey Bill, do you think I should just remove the radio, the car was running great prior to me messing with it.

no i don`t think its anything in the radio it self.something else is wrong. did you use the original power or any of the factory plug s? sounds like its powering up or feeding back .you have the makings of a real headache on your hands. was this car for sale on 109 in farmingdale?

No its a 1 owner car from jersey with 51,000 miles on it. The previous radio was installed it just didn't have the face plate the car ran perfect. Do you think it's something with the alarm?

Welcome to the CAC! :w

The first thing I would do is remove the fuse powering the radio system. Then see if you still have the same problems. I have a 1994. If you need wiring diagrams let me know via PM. Also, do you now have a SYS light on your speedo? That is an indication of an open line but that would certainly not cause this problem, the SYS light is just ancillary to what you are experiencing now.

I can help if you'd like. Either PM me or e-mail me and I will call you on my cell and we'll go over it.

Hey Paul, thanks for the offer to help it looks like it was the battery, I bought the car 2 weeks ago its been in the garage were i have been playing around with it also my daughter like to show all there friends how the headlights spin around. I checked the battery and it was dead I charged it over night and now everything is working great. What are your thoughts on this? Again thanks for the help. Renato

How old is the battery? How many times did she spin the light? How long did it sit? If it is an older one I'd replace it. If it sits for two weeks it may go dead. A lot of things need trickle charge.

Best of luck.

Paul

hey renato..if you need a hand replacing battery let me know.not that far away...bill
