it appears that my 89 vette has 2 fans. one on the outside of the radiator, and the other (conventionally) on the inside. I am about to put a switch so that I can turn the fan on while in traffic (running hot) but which fan should I activate?? I'm thinking the inside one........any suggestions?? Thanks

Before the LT1 the Corvette had a Booster fan option. This is why your car has 2 fans. Your car is so optioned. Im not sure if it makes a difference what one you should switch.

Unless it is a Z-51...then both fans came stock...

i am not sure if it's a Z-51, but what fan should I put the switch on?? Oh yeah, how do i tell if it is a Z-51

On my '85, I had a 10in. auxillary fan in front of the air condensor that I ran directly on a switch. I used it for the track.......in between runs when the car was off I would kick that little fan on just for a little extra cooling. I think the actual purpose of the fan is to come on right before overheating.........I think.

Other members may offer another way to determine if you have a Z51 but the Mid America catalog says, "Z51 2 or 2 1/4 complete turns of the steering wheel. Z52 & Base 2 3/4 complete turns of the steering wheel."

Under the lid behind the driver seat is the list of RPO codes....if it is a Z-51 that RPO will be there. But for different years the list is in different places, some are under the console lid....

hopefully you can excuse me for the LAME questions, but what is the difference between the Z-51 and not?? Oh yeah, so what fan should I hook the manual switch to??

I think Z-51 was the performance handling package while my Z-52 is the sport handling package. I bought the original window sticker repro from Bowling Green NCM and it has all equipment on it, well worth the fee (about $65US).
