I will admit it was pretty hot today, got in and started driving, all gages look normal, but the HUD started giving a light blue random background where you could read all of what would be messages if they came on in real time. Has anyone seen the HUD display do this on hot days? The air conditioner was on, so maybe the temp differences from the air cooling may have affected it. The HUD was not facing directly into the sun.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Psuedomind,
I think at one time or another, everyone with the HUD experiences that. It happens when the sun is at a particular angle (usually over your left shoulder as you're driving) and can shine directly into the HUD screen at an almost 90-degree angle. That "bluing" happens as a sort of reflection. It's perfectly normal, and unfortunately, the only thing you can really do about it is change the direction you're travelling.

I'm told the next generation HUD in the C6 has made some modifications to help resist that.

Thanks Patrick

I was a bit concerned, but when I went home last night it did not do it or this AM

I have experienced the same problem 4 or 5 times in the last 3 weeks. Didn't have the problem before this summer, but then again, didn't drive much during the mid-day sun. Same experience - doesn't happen at night, during the morning or evening, or on cloudy days.

Just glad I have some warranty and GMPP.

Patrick is absolutely correct. Only time I've experienced it was while driving recently with the sun behind my shoulder. I turned and the HUD reacted properly again. It was weird while it happened though.

I was freaked out on Saturday when I was on my way back from E-town...the sun was VERY strong and directly behind me. All of a sudden, my HUD looked like it was MELTING! WTH??? I then went through a tunnel...all was well, out in the sun, gone again! Luckily that's all it is..but I almost had a heart attack :D

I suspect it happens when the sun is relected down into the HUD display unit, then relected back out at the windshield display area. That is when I have seen it happen. No harm done, just a strange lighting condition.
