The first production year for the C6 officially came to a close on September 8 when the last 2005 Corvette came off the end of the assembly line. We built a total of 37,372 cars during the model year.

With no ZO6 production, coupes proved to be more popular than ever with 72 percent of total production and convertibles taking the remaining 28 percent.

The most popular exterior color was Black (21.4 percent), followed by Light Tarnish Silver (18.4 percent), Victory Red (15 percent), Luxo Blue (10.1 percent), Magnetic Red (9.1 percent), Sunset Orange (8 percent), Millennium Yellow (5.4 percent), White (5.3 percent), Precision Red (3.5 percent), Velocity Yellow (2 percent) and Red Jewel (1.9 percent).

Most convertible customers opted for the black top (86 percent), with only 11.3 percent choosing beige followed by 2.7 percent who chose gray. Interior color options are as follows: Ebony 60.9 percent, Light Cashmere 24.5 percent, Steel Gray 10 percent, and Cobalt Red 4.6 percent.

Once again proving most popular, automatic transmissions accounted for 60 percent of the cars. Six-speed manual transmissions accounted for 17 percent, while 23 percent opted for the six-speed with the Z51 option.

Export cars, other than Canada and Mexico, totaled 4.7 percent. Other popular options included: Memory Package (92 percent), Passenger and Driver Reclining Bucket Seats (98.4 percent), Telescoping Steering Wheel (87.3 percent), Polished Aluminum Wheels (72.5 percent), OnStar (52.5 percent), Heads Up Display (92 percent), and XM Satellite Radio (58.6 percent).

What is velocity yellow and red jewel? I've never heard of those colors.

Velocity Yellow replaced Millennium Yellow

Red Jewel replaced Magnetic Red

So they are the new for 2006 colors, but they decided to paint some last minute 2005s this color, that makes sense! Those should be pretty unique!

Red Jewel is an internal plant description for Monterey Red

Here's a shot of Red Jewel/Monterey Red . . .

I do not think they looked very similar.

Precision red was a non metallic paint and if memory serves me well it had a very short production run. I think it was replaced with Victory Red.

60% of the cars were automagics? Really?!? Wonder if this indicitive of the average age of the owners? I can't see many younger guys wanting an automatic. Maybe it's also because of an increase in female ownership, if such an increase exists?

Odd you say that, I'm headed for 70, (that's not MPH), and both my Corvettes are sticks. You must have missed the early machining error that left the snap ring groove twice the width it should have been on 5th gear. There is also the punishment you will have to take if you can't find reverse when you shut it off, even if it is in a spongy evasive gate. Plus I love to hear the shifter rattle when you get on it in 4th, I should have got the automatic. They missed an opportunity to fix the rattling shifter and the poor machining will influence some people as I'm sure the shut down procedure did regardless of their age or sex.

Yeah, but you're a Corvette guy like me and many of us on here. You aren't the "average joe" buyer who was deciding between a Caddy, Bimmer, or Vette to get him to work by 9am and then to the links by noon. How many vettes that are leased are manual -vs- auto??? I wonder what percentage of 'new sales' are leases? There's probably no easy way for that to be tracked. I dunno...

Only 37k produced in 2005.....what do you think 2006 numbers will be?
I'm guessing 5 times that and I wish I was one of them!

My son is gonna be pi$$ed off when he can't go to college because of the Z06 in the driveway....

Oops, now I'm confused, what is being a vette guy got to do with a 700R4?

Are you referring to my ride? I bought my car used. It came with a TH350 slushbox. Doing a conversion to manual wasn't a feasible option for me, so I went with the best upgrade alternative within my budget. However, at least 50% of my driving is spent manually doing the 1-2-3-D shifts. It's the closest I can get... :) ALL of my daily drivers have been manual trans. (Which by the way very much limits you as to what American mfg car you can buy!) And my motorcycle of course!
