anyone know of a solution to the reverse gear request when switching off the engine, as the radio and lights refuse to close down and the steering lock refuses to engage. The problem flattens the battery. Sometimes - after eight or nine tries the system works.

First off, a welcome is in order, as I see this is your first post. :w How long have you had your 2006? Not very? If memory serves me correctly, the 2005, manual trans, Corvettes require you to put it in reverse when you shut off the engine. My understanding is just the conditions you describe. Hopefully someone who knows the 05 models better than I will jump in here soon to chime in.

Again welcome to CAC, don't think we have many C6 owners from down under.

Make sure that the battery load tests good (you need to know that the battery is good) and that your battery cables are tight and cannot twist side to side by hand. Do your back up lights work?

I purchased the car in 2005 in LA and exported it to Aus in late 2006, then had it converted to RHD in 2007. This is the first problem apart from the heater transfer plate/cloth which snagged a poorly placed connector - happened during RHD conversion. Thanks for the welcome. We had the car dynoed at 272k at the wheels with an over the radiator air intake - not sure if it helps or not. At the moment I am looking for a by-modal exhaust from a later model as the traffic people here will need to see genuine GM part numbers on mufflers etc. After market exhaust are not allowed. My 2014 Commodore has a 6.2 supercharged LS3 with such a system (392 kw at wheels) but it feels slower than the vette due its weight. Do you know of anyone with an exhaust that is OEM for the C6?

Thanks for the reply. I replaced the battery and put the car on a trickle charger overnight and it indicates that the battery is at full charge 14 volts. I found the reverse gear switch on the passenger side (US) of the gearbox. I hope it is the right one - lower of the two at that pint and between two aluminum posts. I've sent it to the auto elect to test the switch; unfortunately its a public holiday here today - Australia Day and no one works except me - mowing my lawns and working on my new deck - aaahhh. When I know more re the switch I'll get back .

thanks for the interest

I see those bi-mode exhausts occasionally for sale.
