News: 2008 Event Honoring Callaway's Designer - Paul Deutschman

I will be there for sure with one of my Callaway Corvettes :upthumbs

Like you, I am anxious to hear the final cost of trucking vs. drving :cool

Callaway4Fun, et al - the cost for the event for each tier will be released in the next two weeks as I understand it.

There will be a "Rally Package" and a "Show Package" with different costs for each, depending upon what level of participation one wants for the show.

Hotels will be listed on the artandtheautomobile.com website when available. There will be many different ones to select from, but they are not very large in scale.

One other option to consider, is the use of lodges, or cabins in the area. Not your average, deep-woods cabin, these are million dollar vacation homes on the lake nearby. Consider a group of friends could stay at one of these luxury homes, for much less than the cost of a nice hotel :cool

One, or Two Document options vs. Passports for LAND TRAVEL:

If you are flying in to Canada, you will need a valid passport. If you are driving across the border, check your options here:

( Important Change in International Land and Sea Travel Document Procedures (Printable Version) (pdf - 116 KB.) )
Effective January 31, 2008, U.S. and Canadian citizens ages 19 and older should no longer expect that they will be able to prove identity and citizenship by relying on an oral declaration alone. Instead, travelers will be asked to present documents from one of the options below when entering the United States at land or sea ports of entry. Travelers who do not present one of the documents listed below may be delayed as U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers attempt to verify their identity and citizenship.

U.S. and Canadian Citizens – Single Document Option

One of the following documents should be presented to prove both identity and citizenship.

Acceptable Documents as of January 31:
  • U.S. or Canadian Passport
  • U.S. Passport Card (Available spring 2008)*
  • Trusted Traveler Cards (NEXUS, SENTRI, or FAST)*
  • State or Provincial Issued Enhanced Driver’s License (when available – this secure driver’s license will denote identity and citizenship.)*
  • Enhanced Tribal Cards (when available)*
  • U.S. Military Identification with Military Travel Orders
  • U.S. Merchant Mariner Document
  • Native American Tribal Photo Identification Card
  • Form I-872 American Indian Card
  • Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) Card

* Frequent Land Border Crossers — to expedite processing into the United States, U.S. Customs and Border Protection recommends using one of the above asterisked documents.

U.S. and Canadian Citizens – Two Document Option

All U.S. and Canadian citizens who do not have one of the documents from the list above must present BOTH an identification and citizenship document from each of the columns below.

Identification Documents*
  • Driver’s license or identification card issued by a federal, state, provincial, county, territory, or municipal authority
  • U.S. or Canadian military identification card

* All identification documents must have a photo, name and date of birth.

Citizenship Documents
  • U.S. or Canadian birth certificate issued by a federal, state, provincial, county, territory or municipal authority
  • U.S. Consular report of birth abroad
  • U.S. Certificate of Naturalization
  • U.S. Certificate of Citizenship
  • U.S. Citizen Identification Card
  • Canadian Citizenship Card
  • Canadian certificate of citizenship without photo

U.S. and Canadian Citizens – Procedures for Children

Effective January 31, 2008, U.S. and Canadian citizen children ages 18 and under will be expected to present a birth certificate issued by a federal, state, provincial, county or municipal authority.

For Travelers Other than U.S. and Canadian Citizens

All existing nonimmigrant visa and passport requirements will remain in effect and will not be altered by the changes that are implemented on January 31, 2008.

U.S. Lawful Permanent Residents
Permanent Resident Card (I-551) or other valid evidence of lawful permanent residence is required.

Mexican Citizens
Mexican citizens, including children, must present a valid passport and a B-1/B-2 nonimmigrant visa or a Border Crossing Card.

Know Your Destination Country Document Requirements
It is strongly recommended that all travelers leaving the U.S. verify the specific documentary requirements for their destination country. This information is available through the Department of State website or by consulting with the Embassy of the country you are visiting to determine what documents are needed to meet the entry requirements of that country. ( Cambios Importantes en los Documentos Requeridos para Viajes Internacionales Terrestres y Marítimos ) These requirements could include a birth certificate, passport, or passport and visa for entry into that country.

We are implementing new procedures to better serve you and enhance the security of the United States.

Travelers who do not present one of the documents listed may be delayed as U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers attempt to verify their citizenship and identity.

Thank you for your cooperation.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection will begin the transition to the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative secure document requirement over the next 18 months, with implementation as early as June 1, 2009.

For those of you crossing into Canada, the event location (Ogden, Quebec) is but a three-minute drive north of the Quebec-Vermont border.

To give you some idea of what kind of place you're heading to, you might want to check out THIS VIDEO which was shot just 20 minutes away from Ogden, in Ayer's Cliff, (Lake Massawippi) Quebec. The entire area is known as the "Eastern Townships", and there's no other way to describe it but.............God's country.

...more on border crossings

From MSNBC

Feds delay border crossing rule change

Citizens returning to America won't need passport until June 2009

American citizens won't need a passport to cross the land borders until the middle of next year, delaying that requirement by more than a year.
New identification document requirements, the Department of Homeland Security and Department of State announced Thursday, will take effect June 1, 2009. By that date, travelers will need to present documents that show both identification and U.S. citizenship to cross back from Mexico and Canada. For most travelers, that will mean a passport.
The policy shift is the final step of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI), which changes document requirements for travelers who were previously exempt — including citizens of the U.S., Canada and Bermuda.

“We are on course to implement and enforce the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative which is an important step forward in securing the homeland,” Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said. “Limiting and standardizing the types of documents presented will result in a more secure and efficient border. We will continue to encourage cross-border travel and trade while at the same time decreasing identity theft and fraud.”

Residents of border states who frequently cross the border have specialized ID cards for that purpose, called trusted traveler cards, and they will continue to be honored.
Two months ago, the government stopped allowing returning citizens to simply give an oral declaration of citizenship. Proof is now required, but a broad range of identification is acceptable. The rule set to go into effect in June of 2009 will greatly restrict the forms of acceptable documentation.

...since I mentioned this in another thread, I thought I would add it here to the topic:

There is limited display inside - for cars that will be on display only, we could discuss a way to display the cars in a proper setting.

TurboLuigi and I are scheduled for our next conf. call to discuss details on the event, this Tuesday and if you would like, we could bring up any suggestions or ideas you might have.

Regarding border crossing, they have notified authorities of this event and are planning to make it as easy as possible, provided owners have papers in order. Also, a trucking co. is being reviewed to provide shipping in bulk, without markup. In today's pricing for diesel, that in itself, is a blessing!

Your Callaways and of course, you, would be more than welcomed to join us in Canada :beer

Obviously, cars like Speedsters, race cars, and other Callaways without glass on the sides or above would be given first consideration to any of the extremely limited space indoors.

To clarify, THIS IS AN OUTDOOR SHOW / RALLY :lou

If you are planning on attending and have a Callaway that needs special handling, please drop either Luigi or myself, an email on that subject. We will be discussing this during this week :w

EVENT REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN

Folks,

Event registration is now open at the Art and the Automobile show website http://www.artandtheautomobile.com/registration.html

I urge you to please browse through the various participation levels (Car Rally, Photo Rally, Exhibitor, and VIP/Enthusiast) so that you see what is included with each. The event clothing and gift packages are going to be quite nice on the high end in quality and style. The Rally level is priced for two participants (assumption is that you might be bringing your spouse). Speak to the event coordinator Terry Kell at 1-613-301-100 or by e-mail at info@artandtheautomobile.com for any questions.

We are still trying to determine how to plan for the Callabogie Track Day at the end of the event.

I hope to see you all there.

A few of us are here at the show location for a planning meeting so I thought I would share a couple of pics of the area. It is truly a breathtaking. Border Crossing trivial and the show location is just ~ 4 mi north of the border. This is going to be a great event. I know several people are already registered.
