2011 Automobile of the Year: Chevrolet Volt

The volt reminds me of when I was a kid. I had a go kart with a 3 or 5 hp Briggs & Stratton engine. If I had mounted a car battery on it and outfitted the other rear wheel with a trolling motor from a bass boat ( I might be a redneck) I would have had a Volt prototype. I could have been way ahead of my time !

Last year my wife drove 14,000 miles in the Equinox. It was out of our home county once - a trip at Christmas. The rest was back and forth to work and stupid city driving. That means we would have put gas in a Volt only for the trip - everything else was less than the electric range. I'd take that. It's the city driving that has always eaten up gas for me.

And our power generating systems around here don't use Arab, or any other kind of oil.
