2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Speculatively Animated

Even if you do like the C7 Bob, you know the prices are going to be high at first and no dealing because the big money will all want to be the first to have one. Plus it always takes a few years to work out the bugs...on any generation. Here is something else I was thinking about. Is the build quality better on cars that only 1,000 cars a month are being produced as opposed to 3,000 cars a month? Since 09 the production numbers have dropped to where they only retained their top been there the longest employees so to me it makes sense that these C6's are built better.

I just got my 2010 Grand Sport and it is the best Corvette I have ever owned by far.....You might want to trip the trigger on a new GS.....you won't be sorry. :thumb

How harsh is the ride quality on that '10 GS? I'm asking because I was thinking of ordering one with MRC in the hope that it would ride a bit smoother. Actually, I wouldn't mind a cream puff used GS if I could find one optioned the way I want it. I was just online and found a VY 4LT 2010 GS coupe with a stick, both tops, ZR1 spoiler, chrome rims, etc., with under 2000 miles on it! It appears to be missing only the Heritage Package, MRC, and Dual-Mode exhaust. Were MRC and Dual-Mode even available in 2010? While nowadays I'd prefer a white car, my first two sports cars (early '70s) were both bright yellow and the Corvette VY is very nice, so I'd consider caving on the color if the other options were there...

Additional C7 question: do we know yet whether or not the new coupe is even going to be a targa top? All I've been hearing so far is coupe this and coupe that. If the top is fixed, they can keep it. And I don't think I want to wait until '15 for the GS to appear, either...

I find the ride on the GS to be plenty good enough for trips, at least for my old bones. The ride will get a lot better when the OEM tires are replaced. I'd guess the ride might be even a little better with MRC. I don't know how much better the ride can get with the low aspect rubber on the GS. Tire sidewalls are a pretty important element of ride comfort.

The Ferrari and Camaro comparisons are spot on.

Corvette has its own unique styling ques that can easily be incorporated into an all-new design. If this is close to the real C7, the designers have missed that mark by a mile.

While it can be called "attractive" by the casual observer, it just doesn't say CORVETTE to me. I especially dislike the roof treatment. Since the '78 model first swapped out side sails for a glass teardrop, the visibility and aerodynamics of every Corvette since have been awesome. My fond hope was that Chevrolet would go to a smooth and slippery all-glass look with a nice dark tint ... a glass bubble if you will.

What this C7 version looks like is a Mustang top. Coupled with the Camaro taillights and the confused rear end lines ... STRIKE THREE! :duh

I remember these same conversations before the C6 came out. The word was shorter, fixed headlights, chopped butt, yada, yada, yada. I knew I'd hate it. The more I read, the more I knew that. Then I saw the real deal. I drove from Phoenix to Rockingham, NC to buy the first C6 I could get my hands on. Ended up having one of the first coupe in Phoenix. I'm driving my third C6 after ranting about how GM was going to ruin the beloved C5. Despite what I've heard, chances are I'll probably really like the C7.:happyanim:

The ride quality on my 10 GS is a lot better then my 02 Z51 with run flats. My car came with a new set of Nitto Invo's and that I'm sure is helping a lot. I may or may not go back to the Michilin P2's ZP's when these need changing. I am amazed how nice it rides.

Good point

There haven't been any that I really didn't like, although 1 generation wasn't very pleasing to me until it was near its end.

I'd take any one of them in a heartbeat.

JMO, but as far as styling goes, I agree...except for the C5. I was (and still am) mad at them for the C5. The C6 is everything that the C5 should have been. When I first saw a C5, I reacted by buying my '96 C4...and have never regretted that decision. I fully expect to feel the same about the C7 vs the C6. They're free to surprise me if they can...

Here's something else regarding the C7. With the memory of the C4/C5 handover still fresh in my mind...I predict that, during the C7 launch, the automotive media (with Chevrolet's blessing/assistance) will be explaining, in great detail, just what an Olympic-caliber turd the C6 always was. We'll all be totally shocked at how we could have been so deluded...how we actually could have thought that the C6 was a pretty great car when, as they'll explain, it was really just a steaming pile of poo. Wait and see if they don't pull this nonsense again...

That was the way I felt when the C4 came out over the C3. The C2's were always my favorite and I was sad they only lasted as long as they did. I finally got in tune with the C3 and had several. C5 versus C4, didn't really like either of them but got to liking them after I owned them. The C6 I liked right out of the gate. I thought it took all the good aspects of the C5 engineering and put a decent body on it. When the C6 Z06 first came out a Chevy promotion sent some 10 X 8 color pics of it and I put one up in my office. Its still there and although I didn't get the Z car I got the look with with my Grand Sport. I am content.....:happyanim:

I was in junior high when the C3s came out, and I was blown completely away by that Mako Shark body. At that young age, I hadn't yet developed the appreciation for the earlier cars that I have now. Then, in the mid 70s, when I was old enough (and flush enough), I tracked down my first Corvette: a Marlboro Maroon '70 LT-1 coupe with one option...a heavy-duty battery. Man, what a raw, exciting car to drive. After only three years, I sold it to get a Cobra kit. That I will always regret. The C3s did loose me after '72, though...

We're on the same wavelength on the C6. I've had my C4 GS since new, but when the C6 came out I started loosing interest in it. Now I'm very ready to move on. I finally have the money for a C6, but more and more I'm thinking that I'm no longer willing to eat the depreciation on a new one. So, as soon as my garage is empty I'll be looking for a C6 GS coupe. There are a few colors that I could live with if the option mix is right. Blade Silver wasn't on my list until I took a good look at yours. It really pops with those chrome wheels on it, and I think it and Cyber Gray are the only colors that can pull off the standard wheels without looking a bit cheap, as well. You have a very nice ride there...

A lot of folks on the Z forums really look down on the Grand Sport. I just flat out don't get that at all. I have the money for either one, but since I'm looking for an enjoyable, comfortable road car, I'm not even considering a Z06. Maybe if I was still young enough to primarily care/worry about what total strangers think about my car (or, in reality, me), I'd be looking at a Z06. However, I'm decades beyond that now, and I'm more concerned with impressing myself than with impressing others. I think a C6 GS is going to fill the bill perfectly. I don't mean to imply that the Z06 is exclusively a poser car. On the contrary, I think it's absolutely the ultimate track day car available for the money. I'm just aware that that's no longer the car that I need or want...

Thanks for the compliment. After buying the car on line and seeing only pictures I was ok with the paint color but when I first saw it live I said wow! In my opinion you gotta have the chrome wheels with it to make it work. I went through the same mental excersises you did when getting ready to by a newer car. I had a beautiful 08 Z06 tracked down up in Chicago and called and had them give me a 24 hr. hold on it. After a restless night I came to the conclusion that 505 hp is cool but you couldn't take the top off if you wanted to. I wanted a cruiser not a racer. So I called them and said thanks but no thanks. That car was 47K.

I then turned my eyes towards the Grand Sports and found this 2010 with 20K that was closer and had a 6M side oiler which I think is cool and a handbuilt engine. What is not to love....It's a poor mans Z06.....With the Corsa X pipe and Sport mufflers it sounds like a million bucks..........and it ended up costing me 3 grand less then the 08 Z06. I think you will love the GS as long as you get the color and wheels that you want.

Just to confuse you more........look at this.......:D

Very funny...actually, the photo just confirms that I really have no choice...it's definitely a C6 over a C7. Except for the unfortunate Camaro rear end, the whole design wreaks of Asia, which is not a compliment. The design team seems to have gotten lost in the woods...a terrible shame.

As to colors on C6s, now that I'm going used car, I'll have to loosen up on my preferences a bit. Velocity Yellow and Torch Red are both beautiful colors, but I'm in the mood for something a little less "look at me" these days. I don't know about the orange, either...maybe. After all these years with my old GS, I think I'm done with blues for a while, too. Black is completely out of the question: beautiful but too much trouble. That leaves white for sure, and now silver...with Crystal Red and Cyber Grey in the running as well...depending, as you say, on which wheels, interior colors, etc. JMO, but I can't handle Cashmere interiors at all. Other colors/combinations will receive consideration.

I just realized...we kind of pulled this thread off track, didn't we? Sorry...

Try to find a Heritage package and that will have the two toned interior which in my opinion helps the interiors not be as plain looking. The Cyber Grey is a super color with ebony/titanium or ebony/red...but you can't go wrong with the Blade silver. About the thread hijack....that's why I posted the pic of the C7 rendering....don't forget that is just a scientific wild ass guess....:D:hijack

What photo?

That looks like a rendering. If it was a photo, GM would be on them like white on rice.

True dat.....is it a photo of a rendering...or a picture of a drawing....whatever it is I kinda like it but will have to wait until the official unvailing in January unless GM lets a pic get out. Maybe they are working with Jelopnik......we shall see.

The C7 can't come fast enough. The first quarter sales for the Corvette was only 4,250.

That's because the economy sucks - people are afraid to spend on luxury/frivolous items, and things are getting worse.
