I know that it is highly suggested to not run 315/35Z17's on stock 9.5 rims, but why ? In my searchs I see most say to not run this combo, but I have my drag 315/35Z17 radials on a aftemarket 9.5 rim, and after 20 passes on them at 17 - 22 psi, no issues.

is it because of wandering or what?:confused:confused:confused

I attached pics of my drag setup, but at 30 psi on the way home today after the races.

beats me !

I had 315 x 16 Michelins and would STILL have them if they had'nt been discontinued. They were so wide that the rear view looked like Fred Flintstones car..:rotfl

Some worry that there will be excess sidewall flex...I just today yanked my car around at about 40 mph with very aggresive 1/3 turns of the wheel (Z-51, only has 3/4 turn to lock) to see how it felt as far as control...I've got 275/40/17 all 4 on there now....it took the sudden harsh steering input 3 times in rapid succession but the 4th time I could easily feel the sidewall flex under those conditions. One more "yank" and the back end would have broken loose... That was extreme, but I do not believe that a 315 would have been any worse and maybe even less depending on the tire brand & tread pattern and compound. These were Yokos today and they are hard as a rock....Not real pleased with these. A softer tire (better tire) might have flexed but still gripped the road surface, even with repeated radical steering input.

I had very slight rubbing of the steering tires on my 315's...but nothing that caused damage or interfered. My 275/17 rubs up front sometimes in full lock turns.

Why they say not to do it?
beats me.:confused

" Each tire has a specific rim width range on which the tire can be mounted. Failure to follow rim width recommendations may result in poor tire performance or possible wheel and/or tire failure."

Recommended width range for 315/35 is 10" -12" with the middle (11") being the optimum preference
