Hello All -

I am new to this board. A corvette lover but not an owner yet. I have the opportunity to purchase from a family member a 35th Anniversary '88 vette. The car seems as if it is in good shape. There are about 3 scratches that I found and no chips. The car is pretty dirty, esp the white leather. I figure a good detailer could shine this baby up. Everything seems to run fine and there has been a flow master exhaust system put on. The car has 45,000 miles on it. Would $8000 be a reasonable price for this car? Anything I should know about this car or look for?

Thanks

I don't know about the pricing, but that doesn't sound too bad to me. You'll really enjoy the Anniversary car. There were only 2050 of them made and it is unique. I get a lot of nice comments with mine. Mine has never left me anywhere (Although I did limp home once with a failed alternator.) and I never hesitate to jump in it and go. I've driven it from Chicago to LA and back and all around our area in the eight years I've owned it. I've only done the things that would be pretty normal for a 17 year old car. Replaced leaky injectors, fuel pressure regulator, leaking gaskets, shocks, tires, and of course the alternator.

Good luck,
John

Wow...how many miles do you have on yours?

Yeah it is really a neat car and something unique as you say. I wonder how many of the 2050 are still around.

With only 45000 miles on the car, I would say that $8000 is a steal, especially if everything works and there are no major issues. The 35th Anniversary is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful Corvettes ever made. I was originally going to try to find one before I found my dream car. With only 2050 produced it is the most rare of the "Anniversary" Corvettes.
There were over 15,000 of the 1978 Silver Anniversary and over 6,700 of the 1993 40th Anniversary. I don't have the number of the 2003 50th Anniversary Corvettes, but you can bet it is way more than 2050. Eventually those cars are going to really go up in value for a well maintained example of one.

There Good luck with the purchase and keep us posted.

Thanks for the info. Now you really have me salavating. Too bad my wife's cousin wants to keep it stored until the spring. Well, maybe that is best considering there is already snow on the ground here in NJ.

did the family member buy it new? if so thats sweet!! you'll know all the history and thats worth alot!! start saving up and getting all the goodies to put in her!!

As far as I know, it was either 1 or 2 years old. They have had it a long time and it would be nice to keep it in the family.

The 35th anniversary is one of my favorites. The previous owner of my '89 had the middle crossover section painted black because he liked the '88 better.

I think you will enjoy the ride. I think your getting it for a very good price.

Good luck,
Dino

everyone knows that the 30th anniversary is the rarest of all corvettes;LOL

anyway, as everyone has stated... that is one nice car, rare and desireable. look at the for sale section in the C4 area and you will see one with 70k on it for *I think* $13,000.

I meant except that one of course!!:D (And the 20th or 10th Anniversary's too!)

Wait are you guys refering to 1983 when they made a bit over 40 cars which had oodles of problems? I believe only 1 still exists in a museum in Kentucky. None of them were ever sold. Are you making a funny? LOL

Humor? Sarcasm? Never!! Why would you think that!?!? :D There is a 1983 Corvette in the museum, white, if I remember correctly.

I cannot believe Edmond has not seen this thread yet. He has a 35th anniversary. If the truth was to be really known, I wonder how many are left. Kind of like the Grand sport story. Some of the GM's from that time actually removed cars and hid them for a while. I love a good mystery.

Remember - Edmond's not as young as he use to be. :L

He's probably on a surveillance. :D

8K for a 35th!!! Write the check!!! Any 88 with 45k on the clock is worth 8k...As mentioned earlier the 35th is the rarest of Anniv cars ever. You can get a new replacement white interior thru the mail order crowd ( Corvette Central/Ecklers/Mid America etc) They still carry them. I will say getting certain emblems is close to impossible. NOS aint easy to find and no one seems to want to make good re-pros due to the low volume of cars built. The side emblems nose and gas door emblems can be found but for a price. The center console emblems are also some heavy dollars if you can find them. There is also the 35th registry that Joe Clemente runs out of PA. I belong to the registry and meet in Carlisle each year with other 35th owners. Im in Jersey also (Monmouth Cty) and belong to a Corvette club called Corvette Express. If you live in the area we meet Tomorrow (WED) for our monthly meeting. Our club website is www.corvetteexpress.com. Feel free to check it out! Both my cars are on the site. Any questions you have feel free to reach out to me!!! Welcome aboard!!!:beer Maybe one day if you are in the area we can grab a cold one!!!

Anthony

The side emblems on the hood are about impossible to find now. Good thing I bought a couple of spare ones. I paid about $90 each a couple years ago.

They are quite distinct with the all white look. I love the looks of the 35th Anniversary models more than the other Anniversary models.

I also wonder how many of them are still out there. Some have surely perished like all cars do. I'm getting my motor rebuilt and new gears this winter. When the spring comes around, it's a new paint job, new suspension and new interior/weatherstripping. I'm probably going to put the white rims aside and put on some black 5 spokes. Or maybe some white 5 spokes? Hmmm...

I saw one with the white five spokes on it somewhere on the web. It escapes me now, but if I remember I will post a link. It did look pretty cool though!!
