Is the installation of a Wonderbar the only difference between the 88-90 motors and the 91?

Lets see... about 21hp?

:Silly

Actually that's something I've wondered about myself. To confuse things further I'm pretty sure the '90s were rated at 390hp. One thing I can think of is the camshaft. Callaway uses the stock camshaft and I think it changed to a slightly more agressive profile in '90? (Not quite sure and I don't have anything here to reference.) They also changed from MAF to MAP in '90 and upgraded the computer. I don't know if this would effect the rating. Then again, they could also basically make up whatever they wanted to within reason. HP/TRQ ratings are somewhat arbitrary and up to the manufacturer how they want to state them.

Interesting Question

The answer to this is where the measurement of power took place regarding the RPM range.

We saw the same horsepower on an 1988 as we did on a 1991 at the same rpms.

Mostly it was advertising to promote the car sales. Performance differences between all 1989 - 1991 cars was about the same in most cases. We found that the 1988 coupe 4 + 3 was the fastest in the entire group. Place a 3.33 or 3.45 rear axle in and the number get even better.

They are all great running cars...

Kevin, I an not 100% on this however, about a decade ago, car Craft magazine ran the cam profile #'s for the L98's the cars while all aggressive (compared to the 5.0L's) the 89 "seemed" to have the most aggressive w/ the 88 next... I think 90/91 were fairly comparable and I don't recall the rest. The 89/88 just stood out for one reason or another...

When I go through my old issues, maybe I can dig it up and verify:)
