From 4+3 to 6 speed

I wanted to put a 6-speed transmission on my '85. Has anyone out there done this?

A few of us have done the swap, both with either with the ROD 6-speed or the ZF 6-speed.

You can see what I have done in the past year or so by starting with My Engine Project - the beignning of this round of modifications for my '87. The thread has been split into three parts now; parts one and two are in the C4 Mods forum as well. :v

Yup, but why?

I decided against this, opting or a redo of my 4+3.

Try a search on the forum to get a LOT of info. The tab for search is above, in blue.

Cool, you can delete a duplicate post from the edit tab. After clicking on it, look for and check the 'Delete' box.

Thank you Mike. :CAC

Please refrain from mutiple postings in multiple forums Zero; wait a few minutes before you re-post the same question. Give people a chance to answer. ;)

Nice documentation on your site Larry! :upthumbs

I like the way you had to say "I hope I can drive this thing!" because that's exactly the way I feel about it too. I have already missed a few shifts because of my tendency to push a little too hard when going through the gate. The push from second to third doesn't take too much effort, and I've gone straight into fifth a few times already. By the same token, you can miss fourth on the way down and accidently hit second - been there, done that too. :o

Fantastic!

thanks for the superb documentation and photos. I may get into this and am glad to see it done; especially the cutout part.

I will be waiting to hear about the tranny noise as time passes.

I should update the site now that I have a couple of thousand miles on the trans. The noise has subsided quite a bit, and when cruising, you don't even notice. About the only time you really notice it is when going hard in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear.

I couldn't be happier with the way it has turned out. Worth every penny to me.
