Things were very simple at the start. My light in the shift quadrant of my "02 was inoperative and I had a replacement for my broken console compartment door latch to install. So I pulled the console and the instrument panel accessory trim plate. No problem at all.
Found the bulb socket and twisted to remove the socket for the shift quadrant bulb. Found the socket was very burned from overheating. The light bulb burns all the time the ignition is on. So I thought (big mistake) I should wire it to a supply that is switched through the headlights. Then the quadrant light would only burn when outside lights were on--much cooler. The closest wire available was the Fog Light power wire (brown) in the Fog Light switch left of steering wheel. Tapped into that and ran a wire from there over to the power wire (black) for the light in shift quadrant. Then I terminated the original shift supply power wire.
Sounded simple to me. Wasn't hard at all. Got done and now my headlight doors won't close. Lights work--but no close. I didn't touch anything regarding the headlights. I need some help-please.
