I have a 96 lt4, but this question may apply to all C4's. Recently, my service engine soon warning came on. After driving for a while, I noticed that no matter what guage display I had on (temp, oil, etc ) I would get an occasional flashing "5Y5". Does this mean something, or are my electronics going crazy. Or am I just going crazy?

"SYS" displayed in the trip monitor indicates a DTC has been set due to a malfunction in one of the CCM (central control module) monitored systems and will flash 3 times every 15 seconds while a current DTC malfuntion is set.

Get a regular to small size paper clip and jumper pin 5 to 12 on the DLC connector undeneath and behind the driver side trim panel to the right of the column. That's the 5th from the left on the row towards the rear of the car and the 4th from the left on the row towards the front of the car. Insert the key and turn to on. Don't try to start.

A 1 will flash up in the MPG/range area of the display and then the DTC will be displayed in the speedo area. During the auto mode of the display the 1 will change to 7, 9, then A. No codes in these modules will be indicated by ---.

You will see a 1 and a C12 on the speedo display if no codes are present. Codes will have an "H" if the code is a history DTC.

wow! thanks for the info. although it's a bit over my non-technical head. I'll look at it and see if can follow your instructions. Now for a "duh" question...What is DTC? thanks again

Sorry, I never know how much detail to include. It's always either too much or too little.

A DTC is a Diagnostic Trouble Code. The computers in the car can set these codes after a trouble occurs that causes self-diagnostics to fail, and retain them in memory for future display by a technican to help determine the cause of the trouble. Each major area such as engine, transmission, and electrical (CCM and airbag) has its own specific codes.
