I don't think you can get a 4 spd auto anymore, it's either the 6 speed auto paddle shift or the 6 speed manual.

Not unless your and old woman or a sissy!!!!! LOL

6L80, hands down.
Better transmission in every single way.
IMO< there is NO down side to this unit.

10 laps on the infield road course at TMS yesterday and I'm pretty pleased. Never had to take my hands off the steering wheel. Shifts were firm and about as expected. Downshifting in the middle of a turn still results in a moment of oversteer, easily corrected as I was not that close to 100%, but it's still better to get the downshifting down before getting into the corner.

Trans temps showed 240+ after the ten laps - okay by me.

Hi there,
The transmission default is 255, so that is just fine.
You will most likely sit about 245 for many hours of track time.
Totally acceptable.

Thanks.
Last month, the wife and I did the Big Bend Open Road Race at an average 110 MPH. Trans temps there were 230-240. I figured that was just fine also. Didn't use the paddles there as 110 is mostly cruise control in the Vette.

Manual transmissions are on there way out. It has been predicted that by 2012-14 there will be no manual transmissions avalable from any MFR's. Heck even the semi's are going to manuals. GM will discontinue manuals in the fullsize trucks starting with the GMT900 pickup.
