600km. round trip for parts...

I was able to mix business with pleasure today. I travelled west to Cambridge Ontario to pick up my re-chromed bumpers; further west to London to work on a network; then northeast to Shelburne Ontario to drop off my Hooker sidemounts for ceramic coating; then back home east of Toronto.

600km. later and I'm too tired to unwrap the bumpers.........but there's always tomorrow....Saturday.

The headers will be ready in a week and the polished ceramic finish is good to 1,400 degrees. Oh baby!

I can't wait to see that car finished! So much work to achieve perfection. I added a few stone chips today going to a local charity event with the local Club (pic attached). I swear the entire Province of Ontario is under construction! The Brockville show is next weekend and that is my favourite. Damn the summer is passing so quickly.

Brian and his brother are the owners. He has several "projects" in the works, one being a turquoise and white '59. Another is an old Anglia and I am told that most of the frame and suspension is...you guessed it...chrome.

I can't wait to see yours, it is going to be awesome.

Observations on the bumpers, so far.

Chrome finish - very good (except for a small scratch and a small area of discolouration on top-front; larger area bottom-front)

Attention to detail - poor (lots of flaking and surface rust inside the bumpers which I had to clean up and paint - I was intending to paint anyway, but I'm not impressed)

Unforgiveable #1 - the caged nut threads were filled with chrome. I had to tap all of them.

Unforgiveable #2 - the lower brackets (welded to the front bumpers) were squeezed (probably in a vice) so that it was impossible to insert the bolt spacers without spreading the brackets out again - a time consuming and frustrating process.

Overall impression - disappointment. At $CA1,400, these things shouldn't happen. From a shop owned by Corvette people? - inexcusable.

Who knows what else I'll find as I install them.

Am I taking them back? Probably not until the winter. I'm sick and tired of dealing with delays due to parts availability and shoddy workmanship. I just want to get this car together.

My suggestion is to notify Cambridge CC of your observations and concerns, even if you don't wish to return the parts until later. If you arrive back in six months saying there's problems, they may make noises as to why you didn't tell them right away whereas if you tell them up front, there's no surprises. Besides, vent on them now while you're still hot. ad
