62 door post & Body paint question

I am in the middle of doing a resto-mod on what was a basket case 62.
I have the original door posts that fit very well to the windshield. I had them rechromed and am not sure if I should re-attached them and paint around them or paint with them off and then reinstall. Any help would be great.

I would think you would want to paint and then install the items. Unless you do a perfect tape off, you may be disappointed.
