My headlights currently roll up on their own but will not roll down. I can manually put them down and nothing feels like it is binding. When I try to put them down I can hear what sounds like arcing or grinding. Any suggestions on where to start? What could cause them to work in one direction and not the other?

Thanks for the advice.

The usual culprit is the gears in the motors. It could be that they are easier to turn one way and there is enough left on the gears to do only that. If you pull the motors out and find that the gears are stripped off, which is a very common problem, there is good news. For the complete rotation of the lights the gears only run on a little less than 50% of their circumference. The easy fix is to pop out the gear and flip it over so it will now use the other half. A little light grease like Lubriplate and the job is done.
