65 dash bezel question?

I have an early (Nov 64 assembled) 65 vette. Ordered new bezels for radio and non a/c heater/vents. The replacements have a curved bar on the backside to hold the bezel in place on the dash pad. My old bezels have a post instead of a curved bar. Do I have an incorrect pad for my car or did the supplier of the new bezels send the wrong part?

Thanks-- Bill

Hello,

The defroster knob threads into the cable, while the fan control knob has a slotted set screw in a raised boss. The radio knobs are also retained with sloted set screws. Can you post a picture?

Maybe someone else can chime in with better info.

I've got a picture but apparently it's too large to post on the forum. Not sure how to reduce it to post. I think you're misunderstanding the part in question. The bezels that I speak of are the plastic pieces that are between the control knob and the dash pad. For example: the words "vol ----tune" is engraved on the bezel behind the radio volume control knob. On the back of the replacement bezel is a curved or arching plastic extension that inserts into the dash pad and prevents it from turning out of position. My old ones have a post instead of the arching extension. Paragon has either shipped me the wrong part or the dash pad on my car is incorrect. If you give me your email address, I'll send you a picture of the replacement part. Thanks -- Bill

Brumbach,

I took my radio bezel off and it has the semi-curved arched plastic extension on the back that fits into the dash. They are all like that. As far as I can tell from referencing a couple of catalogs, the bezels are supposed to be the same for 65-67 with this feature. The spacers are not. The spacers differ from 64-65 and 66-67. Hope this helps.

I'm wondering if the dash pad I have on my 65 is for a 63 or 64. Clearly the extension on the back of the old bezel is a post and not a "semi-curved, arched extension. My car's birthday is Nov 10, 64 (this date means something to you Marines out there), anyway don't know if the dash changed during the year or my car has the incorrect pad. Probably no visual difference but has caused my some problems when ordering this particular part. I wish someone with a 63 or 64 would chime in. Might determine why the replacement dezel doesn't fit. Thanks for responding. Bill

'63 bezels are different than '64, and both of those are different than '65-'67; I think the '63 parts are zinc die-cast (not illuminated from the "torpedo" lamp below the clock), and the others are molded plastic. Not sure about the other differences - have never had a '63 or '64.
