Hi all I'm new here and have just gotten my first project Corvette. It is a 66 327/300, AT and I'm diving right in. I want to put headers on it, but just noticed the alternater in bolted to the manifold. Does anybody make an after market bracket for this or am I going to have to McGuyver this?

Thanks!

Rob

Thanks Wayne! I guess I could have done a search too, I just wasn't sure what I was looking for.:duh :gap

A bit of dental floss....some Wrigleys.....and a pointed stick and you are good to go.... ;LOL

The brackets in these won't do you no good unless late model heads with front mounting holes have been installed. I made a bracket and welded it to the header flange, I also made the headers. Hooker sells a bracket that mounts to the header bolts, but it doesn't work real well, and you would have to make parts anyway. If interested I can send you a picture of it.

If you have a drivers side alternator, you will need one "F" and one "D". I am using this set up myself on the 65 but for a pass side mounting (the "D" bracket is made in reverse, same "F"). If you need the passanger side mounting, JEGS has those as well. Give them a call.

Rob welcome to the forum. And enjoy your project.

I would suggest the new ceramic coated headers,They retain there finish. Also I never had luck with headers attachment bolts staying fixed,But I understand there are now different syle locking bolts available so they never back out.

I had a set of big tupe headers on my car when I purchased it.(I am going the factory correct route so I removed them) And I found I had a lower operating motor temputure 5 to 10 degrees But a much HIGHER cabin temp

Glassman, the first bracket I referenced in my early post looks to me like it attaches under the front header port bolts, then the stock "U" channel alternator bracket bolts to it, with some adjustment capability to align the alternator with the pulley. He also could possibly use one of the large stamped steel later model (60's and 70's) brackets that (as I recall) attach to intake manifold bolts and also into a threaded hole in the front of the head... but I don't think they have any pulley alignment adjustment, and may be a tight fit underhood.

First thanks all for the help. I put on a set of hooker ceramic coated headers today. I have the "D & F" brackets referenced above on order... Looked like the least painful method.

Now if the pipes would just get here... the weather is finally getting good enough to cruse. :upthumbs

IH2LOSE,

Was the engine temp higher with the headers or when you put the manifolds back on? :confused
