67 C2 Convert, what's the right way to CLEAN the interior?

RJS,

Thanks, hope to improve the clean and the smell of the interior so that it can continue the traditions that Corvettes are known for. IMHO

I used Armorall once, and it left a very visable white residue in the grain of the plastic/vinyl material that was being cleaned that I couldnt get out. So I never trusted it again. Thats why I asked what other C2 owners had tried.

You might want to test/try the "Vinylex", that was recommended by JohnZ, as it has done a nice job on the vinyl and plastic in my C2. Looks great now! The only things that arent vinyl, leather and metal in my C2, is covered in carpet (except the convert headliner fabric). So thats the next thing to clean. Hopefully there is a decent automotive carpet cleaner available.

I love progress

Hi Bob,
Sorry it has been so long catching up. Sounds like you are making great progress.

John Z talked about Lexol products. I have been into horses for years, and have found all of therir leather products work fantastic to restore and maintain leather. My wife and I had a boarding ranch in Big Bear for 12 years and rode all the high mountain trails that were very dusty and extreamly dry. Monthly, I would use LEXOL to clean and renew my saddle. It would look just like new.
If I were doing you work I would:
1.- Remove the seats. There are two bolts that screw into the floor on the front track of the seat. take them out and thenpull the seat forward and out from the rear clip.

Now you can not only clean the seats up easier on the drive and not get any of the spillage on the carpet, but now the carpet is completely exposed for cleaning.

2.- Rent a profressional carpet clean machine fron your friendly rental company. It will come with cleaning solution etc. I have even had the home carpets cleaned at the same time by a cleaning company and asked them to shampoo the car while they are at it. MAGIC!!!!!!!! The car looks new, smells 100% better and once the seats are back in you will think you just did the interior over.

Jim, Thanks for the ideas, progress is slow as I cant get down there every week, but its moving along. The Lexol products are working great! they clean and do not leave the leather slippery, and their vinyl cleaner is working wonders on all the plastic pieces in the interior. I would recommend them after what I have seen them perform. Great idea on the carpet and the seats.

Jim do you know of or recommend a body shop in the Yorba Linda, Ca. area ( in the Corvette Mike area of SoCal), or the ones that you would not recommend? I need to get some small body work done before it spreads further.

Thanks, Bob
